This Milford Sycamore was a treat to work on! Bryce Golaszewski did a great job with this structural clearance trim. Our goal for these trims are to mitigate risk to the house by providing 10-15’ of clearance while prioritizing tree health. This is done by reducing, not removing branches.

Super Proud to be sponsoring Jazz at the Warehouse River's Edge Brewing Co.!!!

If you think about it, Trees and Jazz are pretty similar. Both require branching out in unpredictable ways while always staying rooted in deep structure. Trees may not be able to read sheet music, but could teach any jazz cat a thing or two about swing.

You may be asking yourself, "Why would Arborist Dan ruin a perfectly good lawn and put a big pit around this tree?"

Other than the fact that is a notorious grass hater, this Milford Red Oak has seen significant decline in a very short period of time. We believe this is mainly due to soil compaction and it's root flare being buried during the construction of a house. We removed 17" of soil from this area 😮

The root flare is super important to tree health and keeping it exposed is CRITICAL. Here's why:

🔹 PREVENTS GIRDLING ROOTS - Buried flares force roots to grow upward strangling the tree over time
🔹 STOPS ROT AND DECAY - Excess mulch/soil traps moisture, inviting fungi
🔹 POWERS GAS EXCHANGE - Roots breath at the flare to fuel energy production supporting photosynthesis

We are in full swing over here on Root Collar Excavations! We are in Milford working on Oak Pointe Church Milford's trees and found a CLASSIC example of a girdling root. When trees are planted too deep or mulched incorrectly. Roots grow up and around instead of out. This significantly restricts the flow of nutrients throughout the tree. You can almost hear the tree's sigh of relief when this bad boy was removed!

Had a great time performing a structural clearance trim in Milford MI!

We are often approached to remove large branches / leads that are extending over houses. This is rarely the best path forward and likely increases the risk to your house for the following reasons:

1) Every cut is wounding the tree

2) the larger the cut, the less likely the tree is able to compartmentalize (heal) the wound

3) The inability to compartmentalize (heal) increases the risk of rot and decay, disease and infections, and pest infestation

4) Rot and decay, disease and infection, and pest infestations increases the overall risk a tree poses to a house.

The good news is you're just a phone call away from talking to Milford's premier Arborist team! Give us a call and learn how we can accomplish your goals without increasing risk to your property!
