A recent study found that even after gamma irradiation, a common decontamination step, toxigenic fungi and their mycotoxins can persist in dried cannabis material, detectable by sensitive molecular methods. Culture-based methods alone don’t tell the full story.
This highlights two critical points:
• Microbial testing must include multiple approaches (culture, molecular, immunological) to detect potential contaminants that traditional methods miss.
• Early control of contaminants in cultivation and processing is far more effective than trying to “fix” them at the end.
At ProVerde, we build testing strategies that reflect this complexity, because defensible data doesn’t cut corners.
