A recent study found that even after gamma irradiation, a common decontamination step, toxigenic fungi and their mycotoxins can persist in dried cannabis material, detectable by sensitive molecular methods. Culture-based methods alone don’t tell the full story.

This highlights two critical points:
• Microbial testing must include multiple approaches (culture, molecular, immunological) to detect potential contaminants that traditional methods miss.
• Early control of contaminants in cultivation and processing is far more effective than trying to “fix” them at the end.

At ProVerde, we build testing strategies that reflect this complexity, because defensible data doesn’t cut corners.

The federal regulatory landscape for h**p products is changing in real time. Recent amendments as part of the Continuing Resolution (H.R. 5371) reshaped the definition of h**p and introduced stricter parameters for what counts as a compliant h**p product under federal law.
These changes aren’t academic, they affect everything from testing strategy and cannabinoid profiling to how states enforce compliance. For h**p and cannabinoid brands, it highlights the importance of testing strategies that can adapt as federal definitions shift.
Science and regulatory compliance aren’t separate. They’re increasingly inseparable.

Now, we aren't all botanists, or evolutionary scientists... the marketing person wants to know if this means we can bring back true landrace strains?

"Scientists are taking a deeper look at the origins of cannabis chemistry by reconstructing enzymes from ancient plants, offering new insight into how cannabis first developed the ability to produce compounds like THC and CBD."

-H**p rules vary by state.
-H**p beverages bring formulation and compliance challenges.
-Kratom regulations are expanding.
-Functional mushrooms demand real chemistry, not assumptions.
-PFAS and environmental testing are becoming unavoidable realities.

The common thread is this: success in these markets depends on understanding both the science and the regulatory landscape.

As we wrap up our Testing Expansion Series, we’re looking ahead, continuing to help clients navigate change with accurate testing, clear data, and a steady hand.

Same standards. Broader scope. Real science.

Recent reporting out of Oklahoma highlights a striking data gap in the state’s seed-to-sale system.

According to METRC data cited by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, roughly 87 million pounds of cannabis were cultivated in a 12-month period, while only 1.9 million pounds were reported as sold. That leaves a substantial volume of product unaccounted for in official records.

This kind of discrepancy raises important questions about traceability, reporting accuracy, and the limits of compliance systems when they aren’t paired with rigorous oversight and defensible data.

As regulated markets mature, accountability depends on more than just tracking software. It relies on accurate reporting, transparent testing, and data that can stand up to scrutiny at every step of the supply chain.

So next question is, where did it go??

Testing isn’t one market, it's many, and each comes with its own risks and responsibilities.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve shared how testing differs across **p, h**p-derived beverages, , functional mushrooms, , and environmental samples. While the products vary, the need for accurate, defensible data does not.

From alkaloid accuracy and microbial safety to water quality and persistent contaminants, these markets all rely on science that holds up under scrutiny.
ProVerde supports clients across these categories with validated methods and transparent results, because emerging products deserve the same rigor as regulated ones.

That’s the heart of our Testing Expansion Series, and I bet We Test That.

H**p beverages sit at the intersection of food law, h**p regulation, and cannabinoid policy, and the rules are far from uniform. States vary widely on THC thresholds, how those thresholds are calculated, what counts as “total THC,” and how products must be sampled and tested.

Some states regulate per serving.
- Others regulate per container.
- Some include all isomers.
- Others don’t.

For brands distributing across state lines, this patchwork creates real risk. Compliance isn’t just about what’s on the label, it’s about whether your testing strategy aligns with where the product is being sold.

As the h**p beverage market expands, understanding regulatory nuance is just as important as getting the formulation right.

01/06/2026

H**p beverages are one of the most chemically complex product categories in the market right now.

Unlike gummies or tinctures, liquid formulations introduce challenges that directly affect accuracy, stability, and compliance. Cannabinoids don’t naturally want to stay evenly distributed in water, which means formulation choices matter, a lot.

Emulsification method, particle size, phase separation, and shelf stability all influence whether a beverage delivers consistent dosing from the first pour to the last. Testing a beverage once at production doesn’t necessarily tell you how it behaves over time.

That’s why beverage testing needs methods designed specifically for liquid matrices, not approaches borrowed from other product types.

As this category grows, understanding the chemistry behind h**p beverages is no longer optional. It’s the difference between a scalable product and a compliance risk.

Moving into 2026, it’s a good moment to pause before the next wave of change.

2025 brought shifting regulations, new markets, and more scrutiny across cannabis, h**p, botanicals, and environmental testing. Through all of it, ProVerde stayed focused on the same thing we always have: accurate data, validated methods, and science that holds up when it matters most.

We’re heading into 2026 grounded, prepared, and committed to supporting our clients through whatever comes next.

Thank you to everyone who chose integrity, transparency, and real science this year. We’re ready for the year ahead.
