Responsible for accurately calculating the total costs associated with a construction project or the development of a new project, helping the company assess the feasibility of moving forward with the proposed project. gathers details and compiles data to estimate all production costs according to specifications. considers raw materials, labor, equipment, tools, and transportation for estimations. helps determine necessary resources for projects based on cost estimates and budgetary constraints. this position requires a highly professional and organized individual who can work in a fast-paced environment.
• Prepares cost estimates and proposal documents for projects or services that are used by management in preparation of the bidding process by gathering project documents (blueprints, specifications, and related documents).
• Develops costs by performing material take-off from project plans and documents, analyzing scheduling requirements, labor, time, and subcontractor work requirements, and obtaining quotes on materials and subcontract work. Coordinates as necessary with shop and production staff to determine labor requirements.
• Coordinates with the client on all changes in scope, and questions or clarifications regarding the work, during the bidding process. Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing and summarizing information and trends. Acts as a resource to project management during the award / start-up phase to clarify any issues regarding what was considered in the estimate including materials and methods of construction;
• Prepares documents that are accurate concerning quantities, specifications, relevant details, and which not exceptions as appropriate;
• Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying prices and vendors, availability of materials, qualifications, etc.;
• Maintains updated database of cost information including a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors;
• Assembles bid-files including all development information that was utilized in preparation of the estimates;
• Ensures that all contract issues such as time constraints, special construction methods, etc. are addressed prior to submission of the bid;
• Ensures that all contract bid documents are complete and accurate prior to submission of the bid to the client;
• Prepares a cost coded budget for each project assigned;
• Analyzes estimated vs. actual costs upon project completion when directed by management. Takes input from project managers regarding labor and equipment hours, construction methods, and adjusts estimating cost factors as necessary;
• Reviews budget and project profitability status and goals with project team as required. Seeks input on corrective measures to continuously improve the identification and accuracy of cost figures;
• Acts as a resource for project management by providing cost information and developing cost estimates for changes in the work, during different construction phases;
• Other duties as assigned, including travel on an as needed basis.
