Aubrey answered the call to serve, volunteering for the draft in 1943. From 1943 to 1946, he served as a Private First Class and earned the Silver Star Aide and Pacific Ribbon for his dedicated service. He bravely drove the 1,000-mile Ledo Road in Northern Burma, transporting vital military supplies from India to China in support of the Chinese army.

Geneโs remarkable military career spanned approximately 25 years, beginning in the Navy Reserve. He worked across all branches of the military and national security as a communications technician and cryptologist, breaking codes to protect our nation. His work earned him the Joint Service Communications Technician award. Geneโs service took him around the worldโhis children were born in Guam, Germany, and Andrews Air Force Base. After returning home, he helped build Sioux Cityโs first TV station.

Gaylen proudly volunteered to serve in the U.S. Navy, completing four years of active duty and two years in the Naval Reserve. He worked as a Dispersing Clerk aboard the USS Rainier, an ammunition ship that traveled to Japan, Korea, and Okinawa. Service runs deep in Gaylenโs familyโhis daughter served ten years in the United States Air Force, and his grandson has also joined the Air Force.

Glen was drafted while working on the farm, faithfully serving ten years in the U.S. Army. He spent much of his time driving trucks, traveling nearly 40 miles daily to support operations. Known for his adventurous spirit, Glen even collected rattlesnakes and helped organize rodeos on baseโbringing energy and camaraderie to his fellow soldiers.

Lowell volunteered to join the Navy at just 18 years old, serving two years before reenlisting at age 21 for an additional four years. Stationed in San Diego, he specialized in repairing essential military equipment aboard the Naval Training Station. His mechanical skill and dedication kept vital operations running smoothly and safely throughout his service.

Scott, an LPN on our team, volunteered to join the Army at 21 years old seeking purpose and directionโand found it through service. He served four years, earning the rank of E4 Specialist. Working in the ER and a doctorโs office, Scott found great fulfillment in helping others and loved every minute of his time in the emergency room. Today, he continues his passion for care right here in our community.
