Nathan S. Curtis

Nathan Stephen Curtis, 51, of Milford, NH, passed away suddenly and all-too-soon at his home on December 17, 2025.

He was born in Peterborough, NH, on October 25,1974 to Thomas and Shirley Curtis who raised their son on the family’s dairy farm in Milford. Growing up on the farm, he milked cows, shoveled gutters, bottle-fed calves, and learned the value of hard work and the pride that comes from supporting the ones you love. Decades after the dairy operation closed and the farm buildings were converted to other uses, Nathan could still be seen proudly wearing the iconic emerald green hat bearing the words “Curtview Farm.”

His childhood was spent playing amidst hay bale forts and cow stall jungle-gyms on the farm with his two brothers, and later, a little sister. It was a childhood full of friends who became family, six cousins who lived close by, and countless other relations who comprised a high percentage of the town’s population.

While his paternal grandfather, Charles, passed away when Nathan was only five years old, he had close ties to his other grandparents, Opal Curtis of Milford and Jerry and Jean Vincent of Wilton, NH. Much of his early life was spent at his maternal grandparents’ home where the sledding was good behind their house and he helped his grandfather repair cars at a garage at the Greeley Farm farther down the hill.

In high school, Nathan first discovered his passion for acting and appeared in a production of It Runs in the Family and Lend Me a Tenor before he graduated from Milford High School in 1993. Afterward, he stayed on the family farm until it shut down in 1994 at which point he enrolled in classes at Keene State College. It was there that he found the love of his life, his future wife, Lyndsay Sklat. He continued to hone his talents as an actor which would place him center stage in several productions including Better Living, A Day in Hollywood a Night in Ukraine and Get Out Your Gods. Later, his biggest and most impressive role was being a father to his children and a husband to his wife.

After his success in the theatre, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Keene State in 1998. His love for Lyndsay grew and the two were married in a packed church in Glastonbury, Connecticut on August 19 of 2000.

Tales of the revelries at that event became treasured family lore– especially the escapades of his Uncle David Vincent and Aunt Paula Kolapakka – which were regularly trotted out and retold at gatherings for decades to come.

Initially, the young couple purchased a home in Keene, but after the birth of their son Charles-Riley Edward in 2007, Nathan and Lyndsay decided they wanted to be closer to the family homestead. The farm remained a Mecca-like draw and forever home for Nathan and his siblings.

After a brief stay at the farmhouse, where they welcomed their daughter, Adelia Cathryn, in 2009, the couple moved into a new home, built for them by family friend Michael Mannino. It sits on a knoll above the farmhouse with a crowning view of the red barn and verdant fields below.

There, the family grew and prospered. Nathan worked for Monadnock Water in Wilton, where he was a salesman and all-around problem solver for the company for 17 years.

Nate and Lyndsay worked hard to provide for their family, but time spent with family was most precious. Weekends and weekdays were always packed with day trips, school productions, sports, helping with homework, and all the small moments that add up to a whole far greater than the sum of the parts. However, not a week passed without a Milano’s pizzanight.

As a husband and father, Nathan was a steady and consistent presence, attending to and assuaging the grief of whatevercrisis presented itself with a calm and loving manner and minimal exasperation. Nathan was Lyndsay’s rock and would joke around and make her laugh. On occasion, he would threaten to throw her in a snowbank when she was too anxious. He said she was his destiny, and they shared a love ofChristmas, good music, laughing at each other and family.

In December of 2024, Nathan welcomed another family member into his home – Jonalynn Sklat who spent her childhood summers playing with her cousins at her aunt and uncle’s home.

Nathan also maintained strong ties with his parents, always attending Sunday dinners at Tom and Shirley’s table. Three days before his passing, Nathan prepared a birthday dinner for his father and watched the Patriots’ game with his father and brothers.

In his spare time, Nathan enjoyed gaming – a passion that began in his teens playing Dungeons & Dragons with his siblings. Later in life, he would pass that passion on to his son, his niece, and his nephews. He made many friends in the gaming community that spanned over four decades.

Charlie and Nathan shared the love of playing the Magic the Gathering card game. Nathan enjoyed watching Charlie play football and throw for track. He was overjoyed when Charlietook an interest in working backstage on a high school play and later had a role in a Colby Sawyer College stage productionthis year.

Nathan was Adelia’s go-to for advice about friends and relationships. He also gave her tips about applying make-up – a skill he developed while performing on-stage. He helped her with her math homework, took her to father-daughter dancesand enjoyed watching her dance performances, sports and concerts. He even sang with her in a school concert.

Jonalynn and Nathan shared the same sense of humor, and they joked around with each other a lot. He taught her how to play Magic and volleyball and even took her driving at their pond.Nathan was available to give her rides to and from friends’houses and was there for anything she needed.

Often found belting out songs around the house, Nathan never took himself too seriously and would entertain his family with lighthearted jokes and silly gestures.

Nathan is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Lyndsay; his children, Charlie, Adeila, and Jonalynn who he loved like a daughter; his parents, Thomas and Shirley; his brothers, Brent and Seth and wife, Jenn; and his sister, Annie Haines and husband, Sam, and nephew and niece, Jack and Eliza.

Also surviving are his Uncle David Vincent, Aunt Paula Kolapakka, and Aunt Shirley McAlpine; his first cousins,Tonya and Jeffrey McAlpine, Gwen (Wunder), Richard, Heidi (Marshall), and Marklyn (McCready) Gauthier who all grew up playing together.

He will also be missed by his mother-in-law, Kathleen Sklat, his father-in-law, Peter Sklat and wife, Judy Sklat; and his brother-in-law, Jonathan Sklat and partner, Ry Lawler, and children, Tyler, Jonalynn, and Kadelle.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Opal Curtis, his maternal grandparents, Jerry and Jean Vincent, and paternal aunt, Deborah Gauthier.

The service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 1 PM at the First Unitarian Congregational Society of Wilton Center, 597 Isaac Frye Hwy, Wilton, NH, with a reception to follow in the Red House across the street.

Donations in Nate’s memory may be made to the Theater Arts program at Keene State College.

Dr. George Thome

Dr. George D Thome, age 89, of Lyndeborough, NH passed away of pneumonia/Covid at home with his family, on March 19, 2025. He was born in Detroit, MI, 1936.

His father, Walter E Thome, 1904-1983 was from Lancaster County, PA.. His mother, Jessie Woodward Thome, 1909 to 1947 from Cumberland County, PA. Walter and Jessie were married 1934.His step mother, Mable Graham Hansen Thome, married 1948, from Grand Traverse County, MI., 1904-2000.

George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sue (Paxton) Thome, their 3 children: Michael (Kelly) Thome, Lynn (Christopher) Guida, and Jennifer (Brian) Lynch; seven much beloved grandchildren, his sister, Elizabeth Evans, step-brother, Neil Hansen, and nieces and nephews.

George was laid to rest on March 29, 2025 in a family ceremony.

George graduated from Grosse Pointe High School (South), Grosse Pointe, MI., January, 1954.Graduated from Antioch College, Ohio with a BSEE,1959. He had had 2 Antioch co-op jobs at the Raytheon Company (now RTX) and was interested in what he had been doing there and returned to the Raytheon Company. He soon decided he wanted to go Graduate School and was supported under the Raytheon Advanced Study Program to go to Cornell University for a MSEE, 1962 and PhD in Electrical Engineering, 1966.

George had the opportunity to do his PhD research at the newly built Arecibo Ionospheric Observatory, Arecibo, Puerto Rico. After graduation George returned to the Arecibo Ionospheric Observatory as a Research Associate to do further Ionospheric research.

He then returned to the Raytheon Company and had worked there for about 45 years on the design and implementation of large scale, land based radars: such as ROTHR (Drug Interdiction), THAAD (Defense), and WAAS (a navigation system for the FAA that enhances safer air travel) in the 1990’s and all have been updated. George continued to enjoy his research on the Ionosphere and the travel it involved.

George published numerous technical papers, invited to write the (older) World Book Encyclopedia article about Radars so 3 levels of students would be able to understand the topic, headed up projects, and has a Patent.

George was a Ham Radio operator beginning in High School: call letters W8OSJ (novice license) to AB1DV (primary license). Thus, unknowingly, began his Ionospheric interest as Ham Radio operators depend on the ionosphere for their Long Distance communication using the High Frequency (HF) bands. George was an Assistant Boy Scout leader.

After retirement, George and Sue started on Genealogy research and travel as to who our ancestors were, where they came from, and hoping to find out something about their lives which actually became a wonderful reconnection to distant family members. Also for his love of learning he developed age appropriate hands on projects for his grandchildren to do and answer their questions as well as helping stack wood (a fun learning process for his 2 youngest grandchildren). He also enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s music presentations, swim meets, soccer games, and had an interest in their robotics groups.

George/Dad/Grandpapa will be very much missed.

If you would like to donate in his memory we would suggest: the blind, cancer research, your favorite charity or to plant, native to your area, trees and/or flowers to beautify and enrich our earth.

Stephen J. O’Keefe

On December 15, 2025, Stephen J. O’Keefe passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, while listening to his wife of 55 years tell the story of their love.

Stephen was born into a large, loving Irish Catholic family and raised in the Bronx, New York. He lived with his parents, Raymond and Mary O’Keefe, in a small two-bedroom apartment, along with his three brothers and his Uncle John. Stephen enjoyed a joyful and fun-filled childhood, spending time with his cousins and his close friends: Spero, Teddy, Tommy, Dougie, and Laura.

After graduating from high school, Stephen enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966, where he was trained as a Hospital Corpsman. He was soon deployed to Vietnam, serving as a field corpsman with the Marines and known to many as “Doc.” To his family and countless others, he was a true hero—both on the battlefield and in life. Stephen was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor and the Purple Heart for his service. Despite these honors, he remained quiet and humble, never wanting to be called a hero. He believed he was simply a man doing his duty and making sure his men came home.

In November 1969, while out with friends at a small restaurant/pub in Throggs Neck, New York, Stephen met the love of his life, Claire Olsey. It was his sense of humor that captivated Claire, and they quickly became inseparable. They were engaged in January 1970 and married that November, surrounded by close friends and family. Stephen was deeply supported by his three brothers—Edward, Robert, and Donald—whom he loved immensely. He often spoke proudly of them and the special bond they shared. Stephen and Claire began building their life together on Long Island, where Stephen worked for the telephone company, from which he retired in 2013.

In the early 1970s, Stephen and Claire began raising their four children. Together, they taught them the values of kindness, service, and the importance of family. Stephen modeled these values by example. He counseled and led various youth groups, actively participated in his church, and volunteered with many community organizations. This commitment and dedication helped inspire his children to pursue careers in emergency services, law enforcement, healthcare, and hospitality. Family always came first to Stephen. He made sure he and his family were present for many extended family gatherings, including Christmas at Nana’s, visits with Grandma and Poppa, and countless cousins’ events, weddings, and religious milestones.

With a passion for instilling strong values in his children, Stephen taught them to embrace change, leading by example when he moved his family from New York to New Hampshire. He encouraged them to “do what you want without being scared.” As his children grew and began families of their own, Stephen and Claire continued their tradition of bringing everyone together for spontaneous dinners, holidays, and other special occasions.

Throughout his life, Stephen was known by many names, but none was more cherished than the one he gained in 2004: Pops. Nothing brought him more joy than time spent with his eight beloved grandchildren. From climbing trees while apple picking, to breakfast at the Yankee Chef, to golfing with his “Grands,” he was truly in his element. Even when golf wasn’t their passion, the Grands always looked forward to time on the course with Pops—especially for the chance to drive the golf cart, no matter their age or size. Stephen dedicated himself to being present for his grandchildren, cheering the loudest from the sidelines at games and applauding proudly from the audience at plays and concerts. Simply being in his presence filled them with happiness. Each grandchild will forever cherish his goofy, loving, and caring spirit and carry his legacy forward for generations to come. There was no sound more beautiful than the laughter of Pops and the Grands when they were together.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Claire; his children, Kerry Viger (David), Stephen (Ami), Kenneth (Brooke), and Timothy; his Grands, Madison, Aidan, Keegan, Ryland, Padrick, Brayden, Rory, and Raegan; the family matriarch, Catherine O’Keefe; his brothers, Edward, Robert (Bobbie), and Donald (Ann); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Mary; his granddaughter, Abbey; his sister-in-law, Andrea; and many aunts and uncles. Stephen will be forever missed by everyone he touched. As Stephen would always say, “I’m not sleeping, but just resting my eyes!”

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the St John Neumann Catholic Church 708 Milford road, Merrimack, NH. Burial with Military honors will conclude in the Riverside cemetery, Milford.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations in memory of Stephen be made to Special Olympics of NH.
