Each New Year brings with it the feeling of closure or completion as we celebrate the incoming ‘fresh’ year. But, when we wake up January 1 nothing has actually changed. We go right back to our daily routine and fall into old habits.
Does this sound familiar? If we can reframe our thinking and instead of writing an entire 2026 list of goals, create a smaller more reasonable plan for yourself. Some ideas:
~You can ask yourself what energy you wish to carry with you into the new year, observing the people, places, and objects in your life that don’t feel like they belong anymore and work toward finding healthier replacements that align with you. ~Same for the things that bring you joy, even the small things, keep a daily gratitude list and notice the little moments of magic.
~Take pauses throughout the day to check in with your mind and body, and take a few deep breaths.
~When you feel you have failed, ask who is giving you the test? There can be beautiful growth in what we tell ourselves is failure.
~Nature moves in seasonal cycles, not all at once. Imagine your first small acts toward your goals like planting seeds. They have to take root to grow and that takes time and care.
~Instead of creating hard boundaries around your goals, soften the edges to allow for flow. We can’t control anything outside of ourself and must be able to find new balance when life throws us off path.
Now I’m just rambling, but, these are all fairly minuscule acts and ways of thinking that when practiced daily, can lead to big changes in your inner and outer world.
