One of them being I opened an Etsy shop to share fun things I’ve created for other therapists, clients and friends. I got tired of using templates that felt too cold and clinical so I decided to make my own along with some kitschy mental health awareness clothing!

Intentionality is tough.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month but here some helpful tips to practice any month!

〰️ Ask yourself - “is there a different way to look at my situation?” Break those automatic (negative) thought patterns.

〰️ Get outside. Get out of your head!

〰️ Move your body. Walk your dog. Stretch.

〰️ Let go of the need to control outcomes.

〰️ Express gratitude. Finding the little things helps shift our mindset.

〰️ When was the last time you took deep breaths?

〰️ Water improves cognitive function!

〰️ Turn your phone off. Meditate. Bird watch, whatever you need to do to quiet your mind.

〰️ Just let it out. To your dog, therapist or whomever will listen.

〰️ Listen to your body. It’s okay to rest!

What you say to yourself matters. The negative chatter inside your head may sound like - you aren’t good enough, you’re not worthy of love, you will never be happy.

Our inner critic is not on our side. It will make you feel anxious, afraid, down, shameful - basically any negative emotion you can think of.

So those negative thoughts that run wild through your head are usually just that - just thoughts. You give power to those thoughts by what you feel. So what you say to yourself matters.

🔅I am enough.
🔅I am worthy.
🔅I am strong.

Opening yourself up to change requires risk and taking chances. Being vulnerable opens the door to failure, rejection and setbacks. It’s something we often shy away from but we actually need to lean into if we want to see changes in our lives.

Not only are we still in a pandemic, we are in a mental health crisis.

〰️Therapists have full caseloads. We are turning people away as much as we don’t want to.

〰️We’re experiencing similar, if not the same feelings our clients are throughout the pandemic; worry, sadness, fear, loneliness, irritability and emotional breakdowns.

〰️We are human too. Burnout is real, folks.

Imagine - We’re 5 days into 2021 and nothing has changed. What did you expect your life to look like right now? Have you not worked out yet? Not put away Christmas decorations?

LET GO. Coming into a new year didn’t actually physically change anything. We may have high hopes for change this year but if anything we need hopes for learning to adapt.

I think it’s time we all give ourselves a little extra grace. A little extra love. Last year was tough but you’re tougher. ✨
