The Milford Professional Firefighters Local 944 Toys for Tots Program is officially underway. Toy donations can be dropped off at any Firehouse or a local business with our Santa on the Firetruck logo. Monetary donations can be dropped off or mailed to the East Side Fire Station 980 New Haven Ave. Any Milford resident in need of assistance should go to mfdtoysfortots.com to sign up to receive toys. Proof of residency is the only requirement.

Today, members of Local 944 held an MDA Boot Drive at ShopRite, and it was a great success! We raised just over $1,000 to help families in our community living with muscular dystrophy. A massive thank you to everyone who stopped by and donated — your generosity makes a real difference! ❤️

Tonight at 5:35 PM, Car 4, Engine 7, Engine 4, Squad 1 and Medic 3 responded to a person pinned underneath their car on I-95 between exits 36 and 35 South. Working quickly, crews got the patient out using cribbing, ratchet straps, and “The Jaws of Life” with the TL9 stabilizer. Patient was then transported by Medic 3 to Bridgeport Hospital. Once the scene was deemed safe, crews cleared the highway and returned to service.

This past week, the Milford Professional Firefighters have been hard at work training on vehicle lifting and stabilization. In this scenario, crews practiced rescuing a patient trapped between two vehicles, with one car piled on top of another. Using cribbing, ratchet straps, rescue struts, and chains, our members tested various techniques to create a stable platform, ensuring safe patient access and extrication. Practicing these life-saving skills is essential to keeping the community safe.

Last week, three of our members participated in NASBLA’s Boat Operator Search and Rescue (BOSAR) course, training alongside West Haven, West Shore, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 73. The advanced hands-on training covered risk management, maritime SAR patterns, vessel operations, victim rescue, and vessel towing. Members also networked with instructors and mutual aid partners from West Haven. As a coastal community, it’s critical we stay well-equipped and trained for marine-based emergencies.

Tonight at 8:31 PM, Car 4, Engine 6, and Quint 5 responded to a dumpster fire on Research Drive. Engine 6 arrived first and found flames inside of the dumpster, which crews quickly extinguished. After ensuring the scene was safe, all units returned to service. No injuries.
