Hurricane Harvey survivor floats to safety on immersus mattress
A feel-good story in the midst of Harvey’s devastating blow to Texas. Beaumont Texas: September 2017
While visiting evacuated Hospice patients in the aftermath of Harvey’s devastation and horrendous flooding, Scott Thomas RN,CHPN from Heart of Texas Hospice was approached by one of his patients, who survived by floating to safety and ultimate rescue, using the immersus mattress from National HME as a raft. Scott relayed what she told him:
"The immersus mattress saved my life. When my house flooded and I could not get out, the immersus mattress floated and kept me dry. In fact, I did not get scared until EMS arrived to rescue me and they ended up dropping me in the water."
An impressive story of bravery and ingenuity in the face of disaster, and a great outcome to what was a potentially life-threatening situation.
