🦷 Tip Tuesday!

It’s VERY important to have dental exams done on your youngsters!!

Horses have baby teeth just like humans! We call those Caps. When the caps don’t get pushed out properly they can cause problems with the eruption of the adult teeth.

Incisor caps shed at 2 1/2, 3 1/2, and 4 1/2 years old. The first 3 molar caps shed at 2 1/2, 3 and 4 years old. The last 3 molars in each arcade don’t have caps they just erupt the adult tooth at 1, 2, and 3 1/2 years old.

Youngsters can also have wolf teeth! These can be very painful when riding with a bit. They are tiny little teeth that sit in front of the first molar. Right where the bit goes. It’s very important to get those taken out as well! Especially before you start riding them.

🦷 Tip Tuesday 🦷

🚫 FOXTAIL🚫

It’s very important to inspect your hay to make sure it doesn’t contain foxtail. This is what foxtail can do to your horse’s mouth. It can be very painful, causing your horse to not want to eat, which can be very dangerous at this time of year. Foxtail causes inflammation, ulceration, and pain. PLEASE CHECK YOUR HAY!!

If you do find this in your hay, don’t worry! Send me a message to schedule an exam so we can clean it out.
