Did you know that midwives are the expert in physiological birth?

You might be saying — whoa, Carly, back up. What is a physiological birth?

Great question! Physiological birth is one that is powered by the innate capability of the birthing person + fetus. In other words, labor starts + continues spontaneously and is not modified by medical interventions.

Think dark, calm space; undisturbed; feelings of safety and peacefulness; labor companions that are supportive; spontaneous labor; and baby and mom kept together in skin to skin after birth.

The benefits of this are impressive:

✅less postpartum pain
✅easier time breastfeeding
✅more positive feelings about your birth
✅reduced likelihood of postpartum depression
✅more calm and settled baby
✅better effective gut colonizing in baby.

If you’re looking for a provider that promotes all these things as their standard of practice, a midwife is a great place to start. Whether that’s a midwife in a hospital, birth center, or at home. They’re the expert in this. 👏🏼

I love placentas - is that weird?
I love how different they can be.
love that you can grow an entire organ that then nourishes + oxygenates a new human.
I love learning about the beautiful traditions and rituals around the world regarding placentas.
Want to keep your placenta but not sure what to do with it? Here are some ideas:
• Placenta prints (shown in this video)
• Encapsulation
• Burial at home or somewhere sacred to you
• Tree planting atop the placenta
• Lotus birth
