NYSUT is excited to announce that the 3rd annual Collective Care Team Lobby Day will be held on Tuesday, May 5. This year, we’re inviting NYSUT members from across the state to join us for this special day in Albany.

The Collective Care Team is a collaborative team of school counselors, school nurses, school psychologists, and school social workers who work together to ensure student success and address the emotional, physical, and mental needs of students.

On May 5, members from these professions will join NYSUT and the state professional organizations to lobby for bills such as safe staffing, mental health ratios, a nurse in every building, Medicaid reimbursement, and the use of AI chatbots.

Lobby Day will include:

Breakfast at 7:30am
Briefing and information about how to have a meeting with your legislator
Meetings with legislators accompanied by one of NYSUT’s professional lobbyists (you don’t have to do this on your own!)
Boxed lunches to go at the end of the day

If you are interested in attending, please reach out to your local president for registration and more information. If you have any questions about the event, please feel free to reach out to me, or if you are a member of a statewide professional organization, check in with your leaders at NYSSSWA, NYSSCA, NYASP, and NYSASN, who have attended in the past. Registration closes April 20.

New York's public servants dedicated their careers to our students and communities. They deserve a stable, dignified retirement, including the healthcare benefits they were promised.

This year's executive budget does not include reimbursement for certain Medicare Part B costs for retired public sector workers. We've successfully restored this funding before, and we're going to do it again. But we need your help.

⚠️ All NYSHIP retirees must enroll in Medicare Part B — it's required. This isn't optional. Retirees don't have a choice.

💵 The budget doesn't include IRMAA reimbursements. That's the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount. Without it, retirees on fixed incomes would face $700 to $4,100 in new annual costs.

TAKE ACTION: Tell our lawmakers to remove the IRMAA reimbursement cut from the final budget to protect our retirees' healthcare.

✅ We've won this fight before. The Legislature has restored this funding in previous budgets when we spoke up. Let's make sure they do it again.

In solidarity,

An interesting take on March Madness. Maybe people should come to our College and Career Fair on April 20th. Our "Ask the Experts Panel" at 5:30PM will have some great advice. You can also talk to representatives at the 6:30 fair about available programs and scholarships their institutions offer. Our sponsor Teachers Federal Credit Union will be onsite to discuss fiscally responsible options. And if you happen to be the lucky attendee who wins the scholarship we are giving away, that won't hurt either.
