โCome see me in Millis this Monday at 9:30 AM.
Step out of the holiday rush for a moment
to recalibrate.
Yesterday I was walking to my car in the rain,
and I noticed my body clenched up
in that protective posture most of us take
in that situation.
Itโs as if the rain is somehow a danger to me
and I must protect myself.
Noticing this,
I realized the rain is neither a danger
nor even unpleasant as it hits my skin.
I relaxed my shoulders,
accepted the situation,
and decided to enjoy it.
Suddenly,
I went from holding my body and mind
in a tight, closed state of panic
to a deeply relaxed, calm state
where I was able to feel the sensation of the rain
as a pleasant experienceโ
like a warm shower after a hard day.
Now I was present
and connected to the moment.
Nothing changed about my circumstance.
I did not have to work through anything
or solve a problem.
I didnโt have to fight my mind
or battle my thoughts.
I simply noticed tension
and let it go.
I noticed I was responding
not to the situation,
but to the way my body has become conditioned
to respond to the situation.
I like the feeling of the rain on my skin.
I am not afraid of rain.
Yet I have, over time,
developed this irrational response to it.
Becoming tight
and walking slightly faster
does not result in less water collecting
on the surface of my body.
Therefore,
it only has negative effects
on my current experience
without providing any positive results
in the future.
Where else does this occur
in our lives?
Where else am I putting up resistance
and suffering
where I could relax, accept, and enjoy?
What am I protecting from
that is closing me down?
Come recalibrate with me.
Take a moment
to relax in the rain.
Take a moment
to realize that all that tension
and all that panic
is not keeping you dry.
It is making you sacrifice
the moment you are in
for the false promise
of making you more efficient
or more safe.
But the rain hits you
all the same.โ
Come see Jim- you will be so glad you did!!
