IGeneX offers urine testing for certain diseases; however, in general, blood is preferred because it provides more reliable and clinically meaningful results. Because blood circulates throughout the body, it reflects systemic infection rather than activity limited to a single organ. Antibodies—critical markers of tick-borne diseases—are present in blood but not in urine. In addition, blood-based testing is less affected by variables such as hydration status or kidney function, which can significantly skew urine results. Most clinically validated and widely accepted laboratory assays are also optimized for blood samples, resulting in greater accuracy and consistency.

Tick-borne diseases are a growing global health concern. Changes in climate, wildlife migration, international travel, and global trade have expanded tick habitats and increased human exposure across continents. Ticks do not stop at the water’s edge; they are transported by birds, animals, and people, allowing them to cross oceans and establish themselves in new environments. As a result, infections once thought to be localized are now being reported worldwide, underscoring the need for global awareness, surveillance, and access to accurate diagnostic testing.

IGeneX is a global leader in testing for Lyme Disease, Relapsing Fever & other Tick-Borne Diseases with over 30 years of experience. Get tested.
