2023年初的一場水災，使慈濟與加州Planada這座僅有5,000位居民的小鎮結下不解之緣。水災後，我們展開賑災與關懷，並持續關注居民的健康需求。在那之後，慈濟陸續舉辦了四場眼科義診，動員了28位志工，為96位學童進行視力篩檢與配鏡服務。

時隔兩年，為了延續對災後社區的關懷，慈濟與當地市長多次溝通協調，最終在今年9月28日舉辦了一場社區綜合義診，服務項目涵蓋西醫、針灸與牙科。當天共動員38位志工與10位醫護人員，服務了44位居民。

由於當地居民多數在上午參與教會活動，導致部分鄉民於午後才陸續前來，最終仍有六位鄉民無法及時接受服務。我們已貼心地安排，讓他們於11月2日轉至鄰近的Merced義診點完成治療。

Planada是一座偏遠且資源匱乏的小鎮，甚至連唯一的藥房也因店主退休而關閉。這樣的環境，使得學童視力篩檢、藥品取得與醫療衛教等基本健康服務皆難以推動。

透過此次義診，我們也與市長及學區委員進一步交談，希望未來能在當地持續推動眼科篩檢計畫，並協助有需要的學生配鏡，為孩子們打造更清晰的學習視界。

Planada已成為慈濟中長期關懷的重點服務區域。這兩年多來，慈濟持續透過行動傳遞關愛與溫暖，陪伴災民走過困境。我們期盼這座小鎮能早日走出水災的陰霾，重現昔日的安寧與希望。

Despite recent federal budget cuts, our team showed up to care for our hardworking migrant community—possibly for the last time in a while. We did our best to provide as many procedures as possible, along with essential oral hygiene education.
