Michael Dailey

Michael Dailey, a cherished father, brother, and friend, left us on January 20, 2026, at his home after a brief illness. Born on November 29, 1954, in the quaint town of Bennington, Vermont, Michael was a genuine soul who infused every moment with joy, laughter, and love.

As Vice President of the family business until its sale, Michael was deeply rooted in a legacy built on hard work and dedication. However, his journey didn’t end there. He embraced new adventures, first “unretiring” to own the KOA campground in Cooperstown, New York, where he created many treasured memories for families and friends alike. Later, he continued to bring his enthusiasm and expertise to Noel J. Brunell & Son, Inc., where his commitment never wavered.

Michael was not just a man of work; he was a storyteller whose charisma brought people together. With a personality that lit up the room, he had an extraordinary gift for making friends out of strangers. He was known for his great sense of humor, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His family fondly recalls his love for cooking and the delightful “dinner photos” he would take, whether it was a gourmet meal or a spontaneous gathering. A lover of the outdoors, Michael enjoyed spending time boating on the ocean on his boat, aptly named "Making Memories".

With a culinary flair that even included whipping up Filet Mignon for his dogs, Michael's love for food was a reflection of his generous spirit. He treated each moment, each meal, and each gathering with utmost care and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Michael leaves behind his beloved children, Daniel Dailey, Kelly Hoot, and Cassie Kilbride and her husband Kevin, and their mother and former spouse, Ann Dailey, his former spouse, Gail DeGioia and his step children Jesse DeGioia and Brett DeGioia. His children will carry on his legacy of warmth and kindness. He is also survived by his siblings, Kevin Dailey and his wife Mary, Donna Barton and her husband Kirk, and Tim Dailey and his wife Nancy, as well as his seven adoring grandchildren who will surely cherish the memories crafted through his love and laughter. His loyal dog, Verado, remains a testament to Michael's love for companionship.

He is predeceased by his parents, Donald Dailey and Maggie Kimball, and his brother, Dennis Dailey, along with his beloved dog, Skipper.

Michael Dailey will be deeply missed, not only for his incredible stories and infectious laughter but for the love he poured into every relationship he nurtured. He leaves behind a legacy of joy, friendship, and family love that will echo through the lives of all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held in the summer months with the better weather.

His career continued to flourish as he took up roles at Nixon Gear in Syracuse and later settled in Watertown as the director of Bowmax, Gould, INC. He became a partner at Dermondy, Burke and Brown Accounting Firm before moving to Vermont, where he served as an auditor and ultimately rose to the position of vice president at Green Mountain Power. Linus also contributed his expertise as an auditor for Vermont Electric Co-op and consulted for various startups. He was the proud owner and operator of Milton Pallet Company and served as the town of Milton Lister, rounding out his illustrious career as a janitor at New England Bowling in Colchester.

As a lifelong learner, Linus graduated from Syracuse University, while being president of Alpha Kappa Psi with a Bachelor's Degree in Business, established himself as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and went on to earn a Master of Science from St. Michael's College.

A man of diverse interests, Linus had a profound love for music, enjoying genres such as jazz, country, gospel, and instrumental. He embraced hobbies such as building model planes—complete with a pilot's license—which reflected his adventurous spirit. His joy for bowling, model trains, and the G train track he built at Lake Champlain in Milton epitomized his playful side. Linus was also known for his dedication to dragon boating as a cherished member of Dragon Heart Vermont. He and his wife, Judith, were avid travelers, touring to many countries. They enjoyed their time in Alaska and Hawaii. Linus enjoyed the yearly family camping trips.

Throughout his life, Linus was deeply involved in various organizations, including the Lions Club, Rotary International, American Legion, Free Masons, Boy Scouts of America and the Eagles Club. He played an active role in the National Association of Accountants at both local and state levels, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and commitment.

Linus's military service during the Korean Conflict marked another chapter in his remarkable journey. He served as a medic, earning a Purple Heart, Combat Medic Badge, and National Defense Service Medal, completing his duty with a year in Japan. This experience shaped him into the compassionate and dedicated person many came to know and love.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of fifty years, Judith Smith Kinner, with whom he shared countless cherished memories. Linus is also survived by his son Eric and his wife Danita Hathaway Kinner, his daughters Donna Kane and Robin McIntosh, grandchildren Jennifer, Monica, Jessica, Ethan, Liberty, and John and four great-grandchildren, Haylee, Kali, Logan and Kora, all of whom he adored.

Linus is reunited in spirit with his parents, Martha Mellon and Edgar Kinner, along with his siblings Joyce Robbins and Bud Kinner, who have passed before him.

A burial service will be held on January 30, 2026, at 11 am in Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph, VT, where family and friends will gather to celebrate a life well-lived.

There is no doubt when ever we see roses in bloom, hear mention of the Sunshine State, or feel the warmth of the sun on our faces, we will think of her and smile. We promise to continue to try and master Yorkshire Pudding but who are we kidding?! Hers will always be everyone's favorite, along with her delicious spaghetti sauce. Helen dedicated much of her life to her career, working at Lane Press, Go Go Gas Station, and most notably at the Courtyard Cafe in Northwest Medical Center, where she brought joy to her coworkers and patrons alike. A proud graduate of Essex High School class of 1967 as part of the "triplets", she carried the lessons of hard work and perseverance with her throughout her life.
