Building for the future of emergency care in Milton! 🚧✨

On February 4, hospital leaders, community members, local officials, and supporters gathered to celebrate the successful installation of all 20 prefabricated modular units for the Emergency Department expansion—complete with tours of the new space.

This expansion will nearly double the number of ED beds, helping meet the growing needs of our community. Originally built to serve 26,000 patients a year, the BID Milton ED now cares for approximately 42,000 annually. The project also adds new observation spaces for patients requiring shorter stays and creates additional capacity for those needing higher-level care.

The expanded Emergency Department is slated to open later this year—strengthening access to timely, high-quality emergency care close to home. šŸ’™

We’re proud to announce the addition of the Mako SmartRoboticsā„¢ system, a major advancement in total hip and total knee replacement surgery. This state-of-the-art technology allows our surgeons to create a personalized surgical plan using 3D CT-based imaging—designed specifically for each patient’s anatomy.

During surgery, the Mako robotic arm helps guide implant placement with exceptional precision, offering the potential for shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and a more natural-feeling joint.

With hip and knee replacements on the rise nationwide, this innovative technology brings an advanced treatment option closer to home for Milton-area patients living with degenerative joint disease.

This week, BID-Milton reaches an exciting milestone as large modular sections are delivered for our Emergency Department expansion. šŸš‘šŸ—ļø

During deliveries, there may be brief (2–5 minute) pauses in exterior campus traffic along Reedsdale Road. Public Safety, Hospital Leadership, and our construction partners will be on site to ensure safe operations.

While there may be short-term inconveniences, this marks an important step in enhancing emergency care for our community. Thank you for your patience and support as we continue building for the future!

We’re proud to celebrate Benjamin Karol, an Urgent Care Technician at BID Milton, who was honored at the Patriots’ final home game of the season, this past Sunday, as a ā€œDifference Maker of the Week.ā€ šŸˆ

Ben is the founder of White Coat Connectors, a physician shadowing program created in partnership with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). Through this initiative, Ben has brought together dozens of physicians who volunteer their time to mentor aspiring doctors from the community—helping address healthcare workforce shortages, especially in high-need areas like primary care.

Thanks to Ben’s leadership, undergraduate students have gained direct shadowing experiences across clinical and surgical subspecialties, including the opportunity to observe surgeries and build meaningful mentorship connections.

Nominated by several BIDMC physicians, Ben received this honor along with a $10,000 donation from the Patriots.

šŸ‘ Thank you, Ben, for turning mentorship into momentum—strengthening our community and helping shape the future of healthcare.
