Imagine watching your parent slowly become someone you don’t recognize… not overnight, but piece by piece.
Losing their voice. Their independence. Their sense of self.
Now imagine going through that as a kid… trying to figure out your own life while also becoming their caregiver. Feeling alone. Like nobody else could possibly understand.
That was my life from 15–24.
I really thought it was just us… until I found and realized there are families all over the world living this same reality of younger-onset dementia; many unsupported and unseen.
This past week in Lyon, I got to meet so many of them in person. We shared stories, we cried, we laughed…
(we even got a picture with the Queen of Spain 😅)
But honestly, the best part…
We just lived. We hung out, had fun, and got to be around people who get it without having to explain anything.
I’m so honored to be part of this. And even more grateful my daughter got to witness it
Because this matters.
YOD families deserve to be seen, supported, and understood.
And through the Lorenzo’s House NextGen movement… we’re making sure they are 💛

* YOD (Younger-Onset Dementia) refers to dementia diagnosed in individuals under the age of 65. It affects an estimated 3.9 million people worldwide, many of whom are raising families, working, and deeply embedded in their communities when symptoms begin.
