Hello! It's time to (re)introduce myself. My name is Dana, and I am in my 9th year as a school psychologist, currently working with early childhood to elementary-aged students. I enjoy spending as much time as I can outdoors with my family and dogs. Our little family enjoys hiking and camping and exploring state and national parks.

It's National School Psychology Week!! This year's theme is Finding Your Path, which is quite fitting in my book!

Hello đź‘‹ My name is Dana. I have been working as a school psychologist for the last 7 years. My current caseload is working with early childhood, high school and our 18-21 program students in a public school setting. I love the early intervention component and working with them as they transition into adulthood. It's the best of both worlds.

I have worked in school settings (ranging from rural to suburban/urban), clinics (as a psychologist in training) and hospital setting as a psychometrist (in a pediatric neuropsychology clinic). I love every facet of psychology: assessment, consultation and intervention. My favorite part of my job is no two days are the same and it keeps me on my toes!

I am grounded in my faith and beliefs. I find holistic psychology fascinating and strive to incorporate that knowledge into my daily practice, looking at individuals: mind, body and spirit. I am looking through the lenses of biological, psychological and sociocultural when I'm working with children and adolescents and their families.

Presence || FULL presence in the moment where you are. Limiting distractions and being ALL there for the people in your life.

If I have taken away anything from this time in a pandemic, it is this--focusing on being present in the moment. Showing up and challenging myself to stay in the moment and not dwell on the past or worry about what is coming next. In turn, this is helping my relationships with others since I am giving them my 100% attention (or close to it).

I put limits on my social media usage, which saying this on social media may be ironic but it keeps myself accountable for my aspiration of being more present in my day-to-day interactions with others.

It's a new year and many of us had made resolutions for the year but two weeks into January and who is still holding strong that new year's resolution. Research has shown that it takes at least 21 consistent days for a habit to form or behavior to change. Need some help sticking with it or starting over?

Set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable/Achievable, Relevant/Realistic, Time-Bound) Goals.

Specific: What will be accomplished? What actions will you take?
Measurable: What data will measure the goal?
Attainable/Achievable: Is the goal doable? Do you have the necessary skills and resources?
Relevant/Realistic: How does the goal align with broader goals? Why is the goal important?
Time-Bound: What is the time frame for accomplishing the goal?

My New Year's Resolution Example: Meal Planning
Specific: I will plan out my meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) for the week.
Measurable: I will plan out my meals 3 out of 5 weekdays (M-F).
Attainable/Achievable: Right now, I barely plan ahead so planning 3 days worth of meals seems doable.
Relevant/Realistic: I want to work up to meal planning out a whole week of meals (with some wiggle room) and align my grocery shopping with my meal planning.
Time-Bound: At the end of February, I will consistently plan out 3 out of 5 weekdays.

I can continue to scale up my goal to more days a week once I consistently achieve 3 out of 5 weekdays for 3 weeks.

Another Tip: Find an accountability buddy--tell someone about your SMART goal so they can help keep you accountable.

Psalm 93: 4 || Ride the wave. Weather the storm. And once the storm is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure sure whether the storm is really over. But two things are certain. 1) When you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked into the storm. 2) His love for you is mightier than any storm or wave. He is with you every step of the way.
