🕊️🖤💫 BLACK, AMERICAN, GLOBAL HISTORY Spotlight:
Henrietta Lacks (1920–1951)

Even in death, Henrietta Lacks’ cells continue saving countless lives.

Her HeLa cells became the first immortal human cell line, opening the door to vaccines, cancer treatments, genetic mapping, and medical breakthroughs that still shape modern medicine today.

A young Black mother of five from Turner Station, Maryland… whose legacy now reaches across the globe.

This Black History Month, we remember a woman whose medical legacy continues to miraculously bless the living, reminding us that every life we honor carries ripples of healing, impact, and hope.

📕📺 Have you read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks or watched the HBO film produced by Oprah Winfrey?
Tell us below, how did her story impact you?

At Northwest Funeral Chapel, we believe every life leaves a legacy.

And some legacies continue healing the world long after goodbye.

“Her cells never stopped growing.”
“Her legacy still heals the world.”
Honoring lives.
Honoring history.
Honoring families.

🕊️ When the service is over… the real work begins.

No one talks about the quiet day when you open the closet.
Sort the drawers.
Fold the last sweater.

Clearing a loved one’s belongings is not just organizing.

It is grieving.

And it can feel overwhelming emotionally and physically.

At Northwest Funeral Chapel, we’ve created a gentle, faith-guided resource to help families:

âś” Start without overwhelm
âś” Preserve what matters most
âś” Make clear decisions with peace
✔ Honor your loved one’s legacy

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.” — Psalm 34:18

If you are walking through this season, we are praying with you and we are here to help.

🕊️ Save this for when you’re ready.
🕊️ Share a heart if this speaks to you.

🕊️ Reverend Jesse Jackson

A GIANT HAS TRANSITIONED.

Reverend Jesse Jackson (1941–2026)
Civil Rights Strategist.
Faith Leader.
Global Advocate.
And so much more.

Protégé of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Founder of Rainbow/PUSH.
Two-time presidential candidate.
A voice that refused to whisper.

He didn’t just march.
He negotiated.
He organized.
He built power.

He expanded what America believed was possible.

Hope is not soft.
Hope is disciplined.
Hope is strategic.
Hope is action.

His legacy reminds us:
Justice requires courage.
Faith requires movement.
Leadership requires sacrifice.

We honor a life that changed the trajectory of a nation and influenced the globe.

A leader. A movement builder. A living chapter of American history.

Reverend Jesse Jackson helped transform civil rights from protest into policy, from moment into movement. His life embodied organized hope and relentless advocacy for justice, economic equity, and global human dignity.

At Northwest Funeral Chapel, we believe LEGACY matters.

We honor lives that shift generations and inspire courage long after their voices fall silent.

May his memory call us to act with conviction and compassion.

🕊️ WHAT IS A HOMEGOING? 🕊️

The term “homegoing” rose to prominence in the 20th century — describing services centered on celebration, worship, and legacy.

It’s not goodbye.
It’s Welcome Home.

Rooted in West African belief.
Strengthened in the African-American church.
Carried forward by generations of Black funeral directors.

A Homegoing celebrates Eternal Life.
Legacy.
Victory over death.

At Northwest Funeral Chapel, we are honored to serve families with this sacred tradition.

This isn’t just a funeral.
It’s Faith.
It’s Culture.
It’s History.
