I have never felt more feminine than I do when I’m carrying a baby in my womb. Walking out and embracing my God-given power as a woman. Partnering with the Creator in growing and birthing life. Humbled, empowered, and awestruck all at once.

I love being a woman.

Doula support can look like hip squeezes and encouraging words, but often it looks like this, too.

Just quietly observing from the side lines, waiting to step in if and when needed. Letting the mother you’re serving and her partner share in this intimate moment. Relishing in the true honor that it is to be in this space with her as she works so hard to bring her baby earthside.

This “work” is so much deeper than dollar signs.
It is so much more than stats, or how many births we can attend in a calendar year.

It is inherent in every woman, built right into our bones. It is sacred.

Hey Southeast Wisconsin birth workers! This post is for you!

…AND it’s for all of the expectant mother’s in the area who may be looking for a birth worker or postpartum support.

I’ve always loved the idea of having a “directory” when I have mama’s ask me for referrals. It would be beautiful to have a place that I could send them where they can scroll through other local support options.

That said, Instagram has been a powerful tool for making connections in the birth world. So why not utilize this platform and help mama’s and birth workers get connected?! 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

Doing the “work” and supporting my very own sister ❤️

Supporting women in birth is deeply profound, but there is something extra special when that woman is your sister.

To make her laugh in early labor.
To bring her comfort during each contraction.
To remind her she is able, she is safe, and she is not alone.
To pray over her, and the baby she would soon hold in her arms.

“Humbling” would be my one word summarization of my experience, standing beside someone I love so much and witnessing her authority in every aspect of her birth.

Absolutely powerful.

Her birth belonged to her.

There is so much focus put on birth and the newborn baby that we so often forget about the sacred season of motherhood that is postpartum. Mothers are not being held the way they should be during a time where they (just like their new baby) need so much love, assistance, and attention.

Here are some ways that doulas, friends, and family members can support mamas in their fourth trimester.

What did you appreciate the most during postpartum?

My 2024 doula availability for birth & postpartum with My Life As Morgan —

Serving: Home births & stand alone birth center births. On a case-by-case basis, willing to accept some planned hospital births.

My why:
My passion to serve women in birth began with the pregnancy of my fifth baby. Following four medicated hospital births, the final being an unnecessary and painful induction, I made the conscious decision to learn everything I could about birth. The vision I had for my fifth birth was to have an unmedicated & undisturbed water birth. With the help of God and the confidence I had due to education, preparation, and support, my “ideal birth” was achieved.

It. Was. Redemptive.

My goal now is to help other mothers prepare for the birth of their dreams, as well as walk beside them during the early days of postpartum.

I am not here to save you from the pain. I cannot do that. I also cannot promise you that your birth will go as planned because you hired me (or any doula for that matter). I’m not even going to jam statistics down your throat about how “hiring a doula reduces ‘X’” and “studies show that having a doula increases ‘X’.”

But what I can and will do is walk alongside you in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I will be someone you can trust and depend on. Yes I will be your doula, but more than that want to *be your friend.* Because you deserve more than just another body in the room who can do hip squeezes, but rather to be seen, respected, and held (emotionally and physically).

Regardless of whether we ever work together or not, let’s be friends anyway 🫶🏻

My fifth birth changed me. It was the first time (I know, I know, “really?!”) that I took my birth into my own hands. I am not the same woman.

I read every book, studied any article, consumed countless birth stories and prepared myself.

We often talk about the woman we become after natural birth, and she is fierce and worth speaking on. But there is something to be said about a woman who does all that she can in her own power in hopes to make that birth a reality. There is confidence in that, too.

I am “not the same woman” I was before the birth of my fifth baby. But I love, adore, and respect that woman for working so hard to get me there.

I’m disappointed that I cannot remember the exact words better, spoken by another mother in the first birth circle I attended. We all agreed with the sentiment, and with how powerful the question was, and is. And even if not quoted verbatim, this thought needed to be shared far + wide.

Who is going to be my FRIEND? Not my provider, not my doctor, not my coach or my pain relief supplier, but my friend? Who is going to stand beside me and take this journey with me, and be truly *for* me and *for* my baby?

Birth is sacred, but it’s not without its twists and turns. We need less people who will tell us what to do, and how + when, but rather someone who will remind us that we can, and bring us back to ourselves when the intensity of birth feels as though it will overcome us. Who will support us as we make *our* decisions and who will not bully, or try to make the choices for us.

I encourage you to ensure you have a FRIEND on your birth team ❤️✨

A little taste of my ever growing client library 📕 Knowledge is power, and this shelf alone holds thousands of pages of wisdom.

Any time I find myself in a thrift store or perusing my resale apps, I always make sure to take a peak for additional copies of my favorite resources. I’ve built a robust pre & postnatal library, and I’m excited to share them with my clients. Topics include: fertility, breastfeeding, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and trauma.

These books will be available for my birth + postpartum clients to “check-out” during their pregnancy and postpartum periods! I’m also willing to lend them to friends!

More details on how to check these out, as well as my client availability, coming soon! 🗓️

✨Share with all of your mom friends. And the aunties, grandmas, and best friends, too!✨

The *official* post for Meal Trains for Mamas, a movement we are starting in our community, and hopefully someday very soon, in yours as well.

The whole idea behind my Meal Trains for Mamas initiative was sparked due to the kindness + hospitality of my church. My family started attending our current church when I was pregnant with my daughter, our third child. During my three most recent postpartum experiences, my church has set up a meal train for me and my family. It is without a doubt one of the most life-giving and life-changing things to not have to worry about making your family a meal for those first few weeks postpartum.

You get to just r e s t.

My job as a Christian is to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Not all women have this offered to them, not all women have a support system built-in in the form of family, church, or friendship. But that doesn’t mean they should walk the road of postpartum and motherhood all alone. I wanted other mothers around me to feel carried in this season, because we are called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). Postpartum shouldn’t have to feel burdensome.

Swipe through for more information on how this is going to play out! Are you local to Southeast, WI? Head to the link below to join our Facebook group, “We Are The Village” ✨ Many hands make light work, and we would love to have your support, as well as support YOU.

https://m.facebook.com/groups/thevillagemoms/?ref=share&mibextid=I6gGtw

My prayer is that this group not only grows and we are able to help hundreds of *local* women eat GOOD during their postpartum period, but that it expands beyond my region and state and we can create motherhood communities all over America willing to carry each other in postpartum. It is important work ❤️
