Parachute House is Milwaukee County’s only peer-run respite—a voluntary, short-term, residential alternative to hospitalization, incarceration, or emergency services for people experiencing mental health or substance use crises. Everyone here has lived experience, so guests are met with understanding, not judgement.
Peer-run respite saves lives and reduces costly emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and police involvement.
In June 2025, our primary state funding—about $435,800 previously included in Gov. Evers budget—was cut by the finance committee. Since then, we’ve been fighting to keep our doors open.
The impact is real. Recently, when asked what they would have done without Parachute House:
26 people said they would have self-harmed
16 said they would have attempted su***de
38 said they would have relapsed
Our Warmline has supported over 6,000 calls a year. Our Warmline is more than a phone call it’s a lifeline. It provides compassionate, peer-led conversations for people who need to be heard, understood, and supported in real time. We help callers navigate resources, explore options, and feel less alone in moments that can otherwise feel overwhelming.
And we don’t disappear once the call ends or their stay is over. We provide follow-up wellness checks to make sure people stay supported, connected, and safe. This ongoing care is what turns a single moment of relief into lasting stability—and it saves lives.
We’ve secured $100,000 so far, but to operate through 2027, we must raise at least $162,000 more. We need this gap funding!
If Parachute House closes, Milwaukee loses a life-saving resource—and people lose a place to land.
Please stand with us so Parachute House doesn’t disappear.
