On 12 February, the EU Statement – UN Commission for Social Development: General Discussion included the following acknowledgement:
"It is of outmost importance to preserve the rights and dignity of older persons who face significantly higher risks of mortality, of aggravating pre-existing mental health conditions and of developing severe disease from COVID-19. Physical distancing accentuates the necessity to intensify lifelong learning and social support for older persons as well as their inclusion in the digital transition. This and other normative gaps have been addressed in a recent OHCHR study, which we hope to further discuss at the Open Ended Working Group on Ageing in order to advance our work regarding the human rights of older persons."
