1. Check It Regularly — Same Time, Same Way

Rule of thumb:
Check once each morning and again in the evening for a few days, then record your numbers.

Sit quietly for 5 minutes before checking.

Keep your arm at heart level.

Use the same arm and same cuff each time.

Tip: Bring your home readings to doctor visits — this helps them adjust medication safely.

We want to recognize Briante Oglesby who serves as a Manager for Jefferson Crest. Briante began as a Caregiver in April of 2022 but quickly promoted to the Manager of our Yellow Rose CBRF. He has spent hours developing relationships with his Members and Employees to ensure they have a quality place to live and work. We are proud of the consistency in quality cares and exceptional service he establishes at this location.

It is our pleasure to introduce you to a STAR Employee, Cannon Martin! Cannon came to us in April of this year with seven (7) years of practical experience. As part of his New Hire Training, he reviewed the expectations of our Caregivers duties. During that training he learned how to handle a Choking Member. He learned how to properly perform the Heimlich Maneuver. You are never be too experienced to learn as a Health Care Professional.

Cannon read the Care Plan about the Members under his Care as he was learned to do during that Training Class. While reading the Care Plan, he learned that one of the Members under his Care is a Choking Risk and a standby observation while eating. Because Cannon listened and learned in training, he was aware of his Members needs. He was aware while the Member was eating his meal. He was able to properly perform the Heimlich Maneuver when the Member choked on his pizza and, ultimately, saved his life! In fact, when the Member was checked by the Emergency Personnel, it was determined that his actions were so quick that the Member did not have time to aspirate any of the food nor require hospitalization!

As many senior citizens spend their retirement traveling with family, pursuing second careers or becoming more active in the community, con artists are creating devious schemes to prey on their accumulated wealth.

Senior citizens are most vulnerable to health care scams. People will call as health care or Medicare representatives to gain access to their personal or contact information.

Senior citizens are receiving phone calls from scammers who purport to be IRS agents. They claim to be calling about unpaid back taxes and proceed to threaten the senior citizen with arrest, lawsuits, suspension of their driver’s license and more.
