has created a resource center for members to utilize to help discussions with their respective State Medicaid Agencies around the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) impending Transforming Maternal Health Model (TMaH) funding opportunity 👏
The resource center includes suggested materials that demonstrate the value & contributions of advanced practice midwives in improving public health & maternal health care & the policy levers that can address barriers to midwives & midwifery-led care in the United States.
The resource center also includes member-access to our updated “State Fact Sheets” with key information about midwives & midwifery in the states. Please note that these fact sheets are still being vetted by ACNM state leaders for accuracy.
Better integration of midwives & midwifery-led care models are integral to improving our country’s alarming maternal mortality & morbidity outcomes. Midwifery voices should be present in all policy discussions at the federal, state, & local level that seek to achieve the “Triple Aim” of improved care, reduced cost, & patient satisfaction 💪
As such, ACNM is encouraging Affiliate Leaders from all states to engage with their SMAs about the TMaH funding opportunity & the benefits of including midwives, birth centers, & midwifery-led care models in their TMaH proposals. CMS has signaled that it intends to release the TMaH notice of funding opportunity this Spring 2024 with applications due to CMS in Summer 2024.

We’ll be discussing more about it at our March Affiliate Meeting. Can’t wait to see you there! 🫶
