More than 700,000 adults in the United States injure their eyes at work annually. One way to help protect your eyes is to get regular dilated eye exams, as untreated vision problems can cause accidents. Wearing properly-fitting eyewear can also keep your eyes safe from chemicals, dust, etc. To learn more about workplace safety, please visit: https://wisconsin.preventblindness.org/ten-ways-to-prevent-eye-injuries-at-work/

Thank you, Ralph Evinrude Foundation!

Since 2019, the Ralph Evinrude Foundation’s support has helped PBW and our partners reach over 40,000 children in the Greater Milwaukee area with vision screenings and vision health services. These programs support children physically, mentally, and academically—because untreated vision challenges can affect literacy, classroom participation, behavior, and confidence.

With only 31% of Wisconsin fourth graders reading proficiently on the 2024 NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress), early vision care is a crucial strategy for improving educational outcomes and advancing equity.

✨ Success Story: A Big Improvement ✨

Because of the NVI voucher program — and supporters like you — PBW connected Sonia with the eye exam and new glasses she needed. 💛

After two years without checking her vision and relying on very old glasses, Sonia can finally see clearly again.

Thank you for helping remove barriers to eye care and ensuring more adults can access the vision services they need.

Thank you, WE Energies Foundation!

Thanks to the generous support of the We Energies Foundation, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin’s children’s vision health programs are reaching over 3,000 kids in Rock County! Their increased funding from last year is helping ensure that even more children have access to vision screenings, education, and follow-up vision care—giving them the healthy vision they need to succeed in school and beyond.

Together, we are helping Rock County kids see a brighter future!

Children 8-18 years of age spend an average of 7.5 hours per day on screen time. 📱

Too much screen time can lead to digital eye strain, which may cause:

✅ Headaches
✅ Blurry vision
✅ Eye rubbing
✅ Dry or watery eyes
✅ Trouble focusing on schoolwork

Try the 20-20-20 Rule to give growing eyes a break:

👉 Every 20 minutes
👉 Look at something 20 feet away
👉 For at least 20 seconds

Small breaks can make a big difference for healthy vision!

🌟 Partnership Spotlight: Oconomowoc High School HOSA Students! 🌟

PBW is thrilled to partner with Oconomowoc Area School District HOSA students! Since last year, we have trained and certified these dedicated students as children’s vision screeners. This past year alone, 30 HOSA students facilitated vision screenings at elementary schools within the Oconomowoc Area School District and local childcare centers, helping ensure over 1,000 preschool and school-aged children in the Oconomowoc community receive necessary vision screenings.

This important work would not be possible without the generous support of the Oconomowoc Area Foundation. It is inspiring to see these young minds giving back to their community while learning about vision health!
