Are you depressed? Or just lazy?
We talk about that question in this week's episode: 🎧 Listen to this week's new podcast at recovery.com/podcasts/giving-voice-to-depression/

I’ve been thinking a lot about how hard it is to recognize depression when you’re in it.

Because it doesn’t always look like what we think it should.

It can feel like exhaustion that never lifts. Like waking up and already feeling done with the day. Like looking at a life that, on paper, is good… and still not being able to feel any of it.

In this conversation, we talk about that honestly. No filters, no clinical distance—just what it actually feels like to live with it.

If something feels off for you, or for someone you love, I think this might help put words to it.

What does it really look like to love someone with depression?

In this episode, we hear from a couple — both named Chris — sharing their real, unfiltered experience navigating depression together. One lives with it. The other has learned, day by day, how to show up, support, and stay grounded.

From stigma that starts in childhood…
To the invisible weight that makes getting out of bed feel impossible…
To the small, unexpected ways partners can help in the hardest moments…

This conversation offers something rare: both sides of the story.

If you’ve ever wondered how to support someone you love — or what that support might look like — this episode is for you.

I think a lot of people will recognize themselves in this one.

It’s about the “mask” we wear with depression—the ability to look okay on the outside, even when we’re really not.

Our guest, Andrew, talks about going to work, joking with customers… all while dealing with a constant loop of painful thoughts in the background.

That disconnect is exhausting. And it’s more common than people realize.

If you’ve lived this, we see you.

What we did know:
People need to hear they’re not alone in depression.
That hasn’t changed.
And neither has our commitment to keeping it real—and holding space for hope, too.

NEW Episode of the Giving Voice to Depression podcast.

Alexander didn’t come to Giving Voice to Depression as a guest — he came as a listener.
When he described the podcast as “humane,” it caught Terry’s attention and sparked a deeper conversation.

In this episode, Alexander shares his lived experience with depression, the family silence that shaped it, and the intentional work he’s doing to become a cycle breaker for his own kids.

Depression doesn’t just affect your mind — it affects your entire body.

In today’s episode of Giving Voice to Depression, Terry McGuire sits down with New York Times bestselling author and Emmy Award-winning wellness expert Darin Olien (co-star of Netflix’s Down to Earth with Zac Efron) to explore how nutrition, sleep, stress, and trauma all shape the way depression shows up in our lives.

Darin shares personal stories, practical insights, and a powerful reminder: healing doesn’t have to start with knowing how you’ll get better — just with the willingness to begin.
