Are you currently in residency and passionate about serving while advancing your medical career?
The Army Financial Assistance Program (FAP) offers an incredible opportunity to receive substantial financial support while preparing for a fulfilling career of service and leadership in medicine.
Through FAP, you’ll receive:
💰 An annual grant of up to $45,000
💰 A monthly stipend of more than $2,999
Who can apply?
Residents in specialties such as Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Psychiatry, and other eligible fields.
Service commitment:
You’ll be part of the Army’s Individual Ready Reserve (IRR)—no uniform, no deployments, and no interruption to your residency training. You’ll complete one 14-day annual training period per year in the program. After residency, you’ll serve a minimum of two years on Active Duty (plus six months for each additional six months in the program).
After fulfilling your service:
✅ Continue serving on Active Duty
✅ Transition to the Army Reserves
✅ Or complete your service and move on to civilian practice

Eligibility highlights:
✔️ U.S. work eligibility
✔️ MD or DO from an accredited medical school (or ECFMG certification)
✔️ Completed PGY-1 year
✔️ Unrestricted medical license
✔️ Passed all USMLE/COMLEX steps on the first attempt
