What does it take to transform a middle school into a thriving K–8 campus?

For Racine Unified Schools, the answer was thoughtful planning, collaboration, and a vision for future-ready learning.

Zimmerman partnered with the district to convert Starbuck Middle School into a modern K–8 educational environment supporting its International Baccalaureate World School curriculum. The project introduced new STEM labs, maker spaces, flexible learning environments, and improved site circulation—all while safely integrating elementary and middle school students on one campus.

The result is a unified learning environment designed to support students, educators, and the community for years to come.

Buzzing with activity and enhanced in natural light, the Green County Family YMCA is a true hub for childcare, recreation, and community connection. 🌞

This project highlights Green County's dedication to supporting healthy living and youth development. The new addition incorporates ample glass, bringing natural light into the facility while showcasing the vibrant activity within. Classrooms and playground areas were strategically located to provide a thoughtful balance of visibility, safety, and privacy.

"Outfoxing Hunger" brings the magic of the Wisconsin Woodlands exhibit to life for CANstruction 2026! Through the clever charm of a fox and her kits, our design symbolizes resilience, intelligence, and our community’s determination to find creative solutions to hunger.

In partnership with our friends at The Boldt Company, we raised funds to purchase 3,097 cans; all of which will be donated locally after the exhibit closes. Standing at just over 10 feet tall, this is our most ambitious build yet.

Puzzle play is the process of arranging spatial elements to explore and optimize design solutions. 🧩

This semester, our interior design studio has the privilege of facilitating a healthcare interiors class for students from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design and Concordia University Wisconsin.

Last class, our healthcare studio led a hands-on puzzle play activity, giving students the chance to experiment with programmatic elements before finalizing their layouts. The students embraced the challenge, pushing boundaries and uncovering fresh ideas, proving that creativity is a powerful force in solving complex healthcare challenges with human-centered solutions.

Having the opportunity to share our experience and passion for healthcare interior design, and to help equip the next generation of designers with essential planning tools, is truly rewarding.

This Thanksgiving, we reflect on the strength of community and the importance of giving back.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of The Turkey Club and Hunger Task Force, Inc., we delivered 32 turkeys to Sojourner Family Peace Center. The Turkey Club, a volunteer-led group, delivered 2,152 turkeys to 48 local organizations this year, ensuring families across our community enjoy a holiday meal. Pretty incredible.

Supporting our community goes beyond the holiday season. We’re grateful for partnerships with organizations like The Women's Center, Hunger Task Force Farm, and Feeding America, working together to make a meaningful difference year-round.

The "Topping Off" Ceremony for The Hampton stands as a testament to the transformative impact local vision, community leadership, and Milwaukee County partnership can achieve when united around a common purpose: ensuring all residents have access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.

Construction is officially underway for the 17-unit apartment building, which marks the first-ever affordable housing development in Whitefish Bay, a village recognized for its strong neighborhoods and excellent schools.

Our design philosophy proves that affordability and quality can go hand-in-hand. The residences are designed for comfort and durability, featuring modern finishes and an abundance of natural light to create welcoming living environments.

We are proud to provide architectural support for this initiative led by Brian Spoerl of Spoerl Commercial, and we are inspired by his work to replicate this successful model, recognizing that housing stability is fundamental to health, opportunity, and dignity.
