The Nassau County PBA is beyond grateful to everyone who showed up and supported the LI Pizza Strong Event honoring Nassau County Police Officer Patricia Espinosa. Your participation and kindness truly make a difference. Taking part in the event, PBA President Tommy Shevlin along with some of Patricia’s co-workers, members of the PBA Executive Board along with Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman sat for pizza at King Umbertos in Elmont. Thanks to everyone who purchased pizza, shared a post, and every kind word of support for Patricia and her family.

Thanks again to the organizers and the over 300 pizzerias who led this event. Your kindness and support of our fallen hero will never be forgotten!

Earlier today the Nassau County PBA and fellow unions stood by the family and friends of Officer Patricia Espinosa as the subject directly responsible for the crash that took her life was arraigned in court. We trust in the process and hard work of Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney and his entire staff that justice will be served in her memory. Please continue to keep Officer Espinosa and her family in your prayers.

A Long Island man accused of driving drunk and killing a Nassau County police officer appeared in court Friday. Matthew Smith entered a not guilty plea.

Statement from Nassau County PBA President Tommy Shevlin on Car Crash Involving Officer Patricia Espinosa

“The Nassau PBA is devastated by the tragic loss of Police Officer Patricia Espinosa, a dedicated member of the Nassau County Police Department who gave her life in service to others. Officer Espinosa served with honor, courage, and compassion, and her death in a violent crash caused by a driver charged with DWI is a profound loss to our department, our county, and every community she protected.”

“Officer Espinosa was the heart of a true law-enforcement family — her husband Francisco Malaga, and her two brothers, Christian and David Almeida, all who proudly serve as police officers — and she leaves behind a two-year-old daughter Mia, who will grow up knowing her mother was a hero. Patricia understood the sacrifices of this profession not just as an officer, but as a wife, a sister, and a mother in blue. That her life was taken in such a senseless act makes this loss even more painful. We stand shoulder to shoulder with her family and our brothers and sisters in uniform, and we will honor her legacy by never forgetting her service, her sacrifice, and the family she leaves behind.”

Last week, PBA President Tommy Shevlin along with the rest of the PBA Executive Board visited the David S. Mack Center for Training and Intelligence to speak with the current class of recruits. It was a great opportunity to speak about our Union and how we work for them. This class has completed the academic portion of the academy and are soon starting their “Road Show” which involves more tactical training.

We wish them all the best of luck and look forward to their graduation day!
