Our 10,000 Members are the men and women who work in the Meat, Deli & Seafood departments of Union stores across LI & NYC and are predominantly in the Retail and Wholesale Food Service, Distribution, Delivery, and Healthcare Industries. Together we are one of the largest and most active unions in the NY and Long Island area.

Local 342 stands in solidarity with for advocating for member safety surrounding the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) pushing for new rules to increase line speed rates at poultry and pork facilities.

Rushed work is dangerous work.

Faster line speeds could lead to more injuries for workers and less time for inspectors to catch contaminated meat before it leaves the plant.

And when corporations can produce more with fewer plants, they can close the ones they don’t need and eliminate jobs that are vital to our communities.

Workers and consumers should not pay for the price of corporate greed.

TAKE ACTION: Tell USDA to put our safety first.
