Love our Stroke Team. Nicely done all!!

Our Comprehensive Stroke Program received the Minnesota Department of Health Stroke Program’s Stroke Quality Improvement Award. The program focused on reducing the door to puncture (DTP) time for patients receiving mechanical thrombectomy (removing a blood clot from an artery). DTP time measures the time from a patient’s arrival at the hospital to the start of the procedure. The national benchmark for DTP is less than 90 minutes, and we improved from 119.5 minutes in 2023 to 78 minutes this year! For patients suffering from a stroke, time is of the essence. Every minute someone is having a stroke, they lose around two million brain cells.

This project brought together expertise from across the hospital, including Hennepin EMS, our ED, Neurology, Interventional Radiology, Neuroendovascular and the Simulation Center. What an accomplishment showing everyone’s commitment to giving our patients the best care!

🎉Three cheers for Mindi!🎉

Last week, the Psychiatry team of Hennepin Healthcare recognized Mindi and awarded her with the Patti Pin.

🌹The Patti Pin is a distinguished honor awarded to Hennepin Healthcare employees who demonstrate exceptional commitment to improving the lives of individuals living with mental illness through their work.

🎗️This recognition is named in memory of Patti Brown-Winston, a beloved former supervisor in Inpatient Psychiatry who passed away from breast cancer several years ago. The award continues her legacy of compassion, excellence, and dedication by honoring those who embody her spirit in their daily work.

Mindi has earned this recognition through her outstanding dedication and collaborative spirit, demonstrated by:
•Years of partnership with Psychiatry and PPDR in developing NPO De-Escalation simulations that are realistic, impactful, and deeply meaningful to our learners.
•Collaborative, evidence-based writing with Psychiatry and PPDR to create high-quality de-escalation simulation scripts.
•Providing hands-on logistical support for in-situ simulations for BERTS across multiple sites, including Brooklyn Park Clinic, Positive Care, Pediatric Inpatient, HOPE, and S1.
•Thoughtful recruitment and coordination of volunteer de-escalation actors to enhance the quality and authenticity of simulation experiences.
•Going above and beyond to support RN/ANARC restraint station education, ensuring educators are well-prepared to teach best practices and to emphasize the importance of utilizing less-restrictive interventions before restraint is ever considered.

We couldn’t be prouder of Mindi. Her compassion, dedication, and commitment to improving care for those living with mental illness truly embody the spirit of this award. This recognition is so well deserved, and we’re grateful to have her on our team!❤️‍🔥

Hennepin Healthcare was proud to be a host site for the Minneapolis Regional Chamber’s 2025 Educator Externship. What a successful way to share real-time insights into healthcare industry needs and trends! The half day professional development opportunity was for 15 educators/guidance counselors (who work with high school and college aged students). Our Simulation Center was the perfect place to host so that guests could be immersed and hands-on in a classroom filled with technology and subject matter experts. Thank you to all involved for bringing career-based learning to life!
