Last weekend, I participated in a holiday market and posted a few pictures in my stories of my table and featured speech boxes. I was surprised to receive a handful of messages just like this one from many followers in relation to my Hanukkah speech box.

As an educator and human being, I strive to be inclusive and mindful. So when I originally created my Christmas speech box, I also designed a Hanukkah speech box. Not being Jewish myself, I consulted with a Jewish friend who helped create the correct vocabulary and verified my original design for this Hanukkah box.

I honestly had no idea how much this could mean to so many and I hope this speech box correctly honors Hanukkah.

Ever since I could remember, I wanted to be a classroom teacher. After college I desperately applied for 100s of teaching positions and went on interview after interview but doors were slammed in my face over and over again.

Instead, I subbed and I took long term positions, taught preschool and even worked as a paraprofessional. After years of being turned down again and again, I decided to throw in the towel and go back to college for my masters in Communication Disorders to be a Speech Language Pathologist.

But in one last ditch effort, I applied for a kindergarten position at the school I worked at while also submitting my application to return to college. After being accepted into the program, I pulled my resume and my principal asked me to reconsider because he was going to offer me the teaching position. As hard as it hurt, I turned down teaching position and enrolled in grad level classes to become an SLP.

I eventually got back into the schools, just on my own terms and working with a population of children that I absolutely love.
