I was born and raised in South Minneapolis. This is my home, and this is a community built on love, resilience, and the belief that all our neighbors, especially our immigrant neighbors, deserve safety, dignity, and health.
Whittier in Minneapolis isn’t just a place on a map. It’s a neighborhood where we celebrate each other’s cultures, share meals, build friendships, raise families, and care for one another. That’s exactly why Nova Aura is here because this neighborhood is full of community, love, and health. That’s the light we live by every day.
In recent days we have all felt the heartbreak and outrage sweeping our city after the killing of Alex Pretti, a neighbor, an ICU nurse, and someone who cared deeply about helping others. Who was murdered during a federal immigration enforcement operation in our community.
People are scared. People are grieving. People are calling for justice, accountability, and an end to heavy-handed tactics that tear at the fabric of our neighborhoods. This moment has reminded us that healing is needed deeply and we need to abolish ICE.
Now more than ever we must stand together in compassion, in understanding, in solidarity with those who are hurting, and in defense of the values.
We love our community. We love our immigrant neighbors. And we won’t let fear, force, or division take away the light that defines us.
We need healing for our neighbors, for our city, and for all those whose lives have been impacted by violence and fear.
Love,
Kirsten
