Doctors planned open-heart surgery for Lennox before he was even born. Then a last-minute scan changed everything: traditional surgery wouldn’t work.

So the team at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital reimagined what was possible.

Lennox became the first child in the Upper Midwest to receive a partial heart transplant using living donor valves — tissue designed to grow with him. Fewer than 60 of these procedures have been performed nationwide.

Today, his heart is growing stronger.

And because of him, more babies with complex congenital heart defects may have a new path forward. Read his story in the comments.

When the Minnesota Men's Basketball team entered the court on Sunday, their jersey’s reflected more than a roster. Each player wore the name of a special cancer patient from M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital as part of their “Ski-U-Mah Strong” initiative. The honored patients joined the players for special game-day experiences including a meet-and-greet with the players before the game and honors during half-time.

The initiative is part of the larger Coaches vs. Cancer initiative, an effort by the Cancer Society to raise awareness for cancer care and research. Thank you to the players and Coach Niko Medved for making this so meaningful for our patients and their families.

Ozzy Hentges, 2, was born with Down syndrome and later diagnosed with leukemia – news that could have left her family feeling overwhelmed and alone.

Instead, they found a community at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital.

The family was surrounded by nurses, specialists, who listened, showed up, and treated them as partners in care. They found fellow families who spoke their same language while navigating life in and out of the hospital. From the earliest days to the hardest moments, they were reminded again and again: they didn’t have to do this alone.

This is what it looks like when care becomes community. 💙

On Friday, a group of former Vikings players stopped by our children’s hospital with gifts from of Hope—gift baskets packed with toys, activities, stuffed animals and more. What followed was an afternoon of laughter, Roblox lessons, and even a surprise dance party in a patient’s room. 💜 Moments like these remind families they’re not alone.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible!

Dehydration is more than feeling thirsty. It means the body doesn’t have the fluids it needs for proper blood flow – and it commonly occurs when kids are sick.

Our hearts are heavy as violence in our state continues to harm lives and ripple across our communities. These events affect patients, families, and the healthcare teams who care for them, even when they occur outside of our hospitals. Healthcare settings must remain places of safety, healing, and dignity for all.

As healthcare organizations, our mission is to heal—to provide safe, calm, and equitable care for everyone who needs it. Violence has no place in our communities or in healthcare.

We urge community leaders and elected officials at all levels of government to take immediate steps to deescalate harmful rhetoric and violence, and to use their influence to promote peace, safety, and constructive dialogue.

These incidents increase stress and pressure on our teams who remain deeply committed to all who need care.

We stand with all who have been affected by recent events in Minnesota and remain committed to delivering the care our community needs.
