Picture this: two people eat the same meal. One feels energized for hours. The other crashes by mid-afternoon. Same food, different bodies — and that's exactly what makes nutrition such a fascinating and personal topic.

March is National Nutrition Month, and this year's theme from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is "Food Connects Us" — a reminder that what we eat is about so much more than fuel. It's about culture, community, and how we take care of ourselves and the people we love.

Good nutrition looks different for everyone, but the science is clear that what we eat has a profound impact on our long-term health — from heart health and bone density to cancer risk and cognitive function. Those effects run deeper than most people realize. Radiologists see the story of a person's health reflected in imaging every day, and nutrition is often a quiet but significant part of that story.

Small, consistent choices over time add up to something significant.

Today is National Doctors Day — a day set aside to recognize the physicians who show up for their patients day in and day out, often in ways that go unseen.

Medicine is not just a profession. It is a commitment — to patients, to families, and to the communities that depend on thoughtful, skilled care. The dedication it takes to do this work, year after year, deserves to be recognized.

To the physicians at Consulting Radiologists, Ltd. and to the broader medical community we are privileged to work alongside — thank you. What you do matters more than words can adequately express.

Scheduled for an MRI? Here's what to expect:

Remove all metal objects before your exam, including jewelry, watches, and hair accessories or pins.

Let your technologist know if you have any implants (pacemaker, cochlear implant, metal clips) or if you experience claustrophobia. They can help make you more comfortable.

Your MRI images will be interpreted by a radiologist and sent to your doctor, who will discuss the results with you. Questions about your specific exam? Your healthcare provider is your best resource.

900,000 Americans are affected by deep vein thrombosis every year — and awareness is one of the most important tools we have.

Deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, most commonly in the legs. What makes it worth knowing about is that symptoms can sometimes be subtle — mild swelling, warmth, or discomfort in the leg — or occasionally go unnoticed altogether. Understanding the risk factors, including prolonged sitting or travel, surgery, pregnancy, and certain medical conditions, is a meaningful first step.

The encouraging news is that DVT is very treatable, and diagnostic imaging plays a key role in helping physicians identify and understand it so the right care can follow.

March is Deep Vein Thrombosis Awareness Month. Knowledge makes a difference.

However you are celebrating today — whether it's a walk outside, opening the windows for the first time, or simply enjoying a little more sunshine — here's to a beautiful start to the season.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month — and it's one worth paying attention to.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States, but here's the encouraging part: it is also one of the most preventable and treatable cancers when caught early. Most cases actually begin as small, noncancerous growths called polyps — and when those are found and removed before they have a chance to develop, colorectal cancer can often be prevented altogether.

That's why screening is so important. Today there are several options available, including imaging, that help physicians detect concerns before symptoms ever appear. Most guidelines recommend that adults at average risk begin screening at age 45, though those with a family history or other risk factors may need to start earlier.

Early detection starts with a conversation with your doctor about what screening is right for you. That one conversation can make all the difference.

Every 9 seconds, someone in the U.S. sustains a brain injury. That's not a statistic most of us think about — until it happens to someone we love.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, and it's a good reminder that brain injuries don't always look the way we expect them to. They can range from a concussion after a fall or sports accident to more serious trauma from a car accident or stroke. Some symptoms show up right away. Others take time.

That's why imaging plays such an important role in brain injury care. When something happens, getting the right picture — literally — helps physicians understand what they're dealing with and how to move forward.

Whether it's an MRI, CT scan, or another type of imaging, radiologists are working behind the scenes to help piece together what's happening inside the brain so the care team can make informed decisions quickly.

This month, we're honoring survivors, caregivers, and the medical teams who work together to support recovery.

The kidneys are two of the hardest working organs in the body — and yet kidney disease affects approximately 850 million people worldwide, including an estimated 37 million Americans, often without a single warning sign.

World Kidney Day is a reminder that kidney health is something worth paying attention to long before symptoms appear. The kidneys do remarkable work — filtering waste, regulating blood pressure, and keeping the body in balance — and yet they often go unnoticed until something goes wrong.

Diagnostic imaging plays an important role in kidney health, helping physicians identify concerns such as kidney stones, cysts, or structural abnormalities that may not be detectable any other way. It gives physicians a clearer picture of what is happening inside the body, helping to guide informed and timely care.

This World Kidney Day, kidney health deserves a place in the conversation.

This Women's History Month, we're spotlighting a true pioneer of radiology.

Edith Quimby's groundbreaking research in radiation physics helped establish the safety standards that protect patients and medical professionals to this day — and in 1963, she became the first woman to receive the American College of Radiology's Gold Medal, the field's highest honor.

Her work is woven into the foundation of modern medical imaging, and we're proud to work in a field she helped shape.

How Radiology Supports Healthcare

Imaging is at the heart of many medical decisions. When your doctor orders an X-ray, CT, MRI, or ultrasound, a radiologist interprets those images and provides detailed findings that help guide your diagnosis and treatment.

From routine exams to complex cases, radiologists work behind the scenes as consultants to your healthcare team — analyzing images, identifying abnormalities, and communicating critical information that shapes your care plan.

At CRL, our board-certified radiologists have been partnering with healthcare providers across Minnesota and the Upper Midwest since 1929, helping ensure accurate diagnoses through expert image interpretation.
