We are beyond thrilled to announce our partnership with Southside Community Health Services and their Clippers N' Curls program (http://bit.ly/2lRvBqQ).

We're working with barbershops and beauty salons to take the program to the next level by adding a free text-message based vidscrip program on blood pressure. Topics include: what the numbers mean, what is hypertension and how is it treated, talking to family/community about heart health and more.

After opting-in to the program, individuals receive a series of text messages over a defined time period linking them to vidscrips recorded by a local medical provider.

Read more in today's press release: http://bit.ly/2lT09Wq.

Tell us, what other community-based programs do you want to see? What health topic should we tackle next?

It's time to wrap up our week of "5 Days of Carleton College externs." It's bittersweet as we're sad to see them go (we tried to convince them to stay!), but so happy to have met them all and so thankful for their meaningful contributions to our company and product!

Here's Sahil Chhugani!

Q: Tell us a bit about what you're up to at Carleton?
A: Class of 2020, potential physics/biomedical engineering major, varsity tennis

Q: What interested you about vidscrip as an option for your externship?
A: The opportunity to actually be a part of the building of the software instead of just watching the progress being done. This externship also allowed me to practice a passion of mine in the setting of a startup company instead of a large company.

Q: Now that you've been here a bit, what is (and is not) what you expected?
A: I didn't expect there to be so much help and collaboration into the the building projects. I also didn't expect such a relaxed atmosphere to work in. The relaxed environment combined with the collaboration allowed for the most efficient use of my time and full growth in my software development skills.

Q: Tell us about your media consumption!
A: I am reading about the potential uses for the EM drive which is propellantless propulsion system, or a RF resonant cavity thruster, using microwaves to thrust forward the short end of a cone I am listening to rappers like Lil Dicky and G- Eazy for me to try to try and focus on lyrics being spoken quickly, along with EDM artists, such as Steve Aoki, Alesso, and Martin Garrix, to get hyped for my day and all my tasks.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and which one person would you bring with you?
A: I would travel to the point of 0 degrees longitude and 0 degrees latitude because that way I could be on all four quadrant hemispheres at the same time. I would do so with my sister because she is very independent and resourceful.

Happy Thursday and Day Four of vidscrip's "5 Days of Carleton College Externs"!

Meet Sam Wiseman!

Q: Tell us a bit about what you're up to at Carleton?
A: I'm a Junior music and computer science double major. I'm the concertmaster of the Carleton orchestra and I sing in an a ca****la group called Exit 69. I also work as a French TA and as a ballroom dance teacher!

Q: Finish this sentence: In 5 years I hope to be...
A: developing software, teaching, and/or playing lots of music!

Q: What interested you about vidscrip as an option for your externship?
A: This position at vidscrip was exactly the kind of experience I'd hoped to have at this juncture: a low-pressure, highly rewarding opportunity to improve my software development abilities.

Q: Tell us about your media consumption!
A: I really like fun and upbeat music, so I've been listening to a lot of MIKA and Electric Light Orchestra. I'm also a big Nintendo fan and am playing through the Ace Attorney series, which has lots of fun characters and mysteries to solve.

Q: Finish this sentence: a penguin wearing a sombrero gets off the elevator here at the office and says...
A: "Is this the 'squid chip' event or do I have the wrong address?"

Q: What would we be surprised to know about you?
A: I love memorizing things! I can recite MIKA's discography, every track on 5 Sufjan Stevens albums, 100 digits of pi, lots of piano and violin music, etc.

It's Day 3 of vidscrip's "5 Days of Carleton College Externs" & today we highlight our only extern with the distinct privilege of being with us not only for winter break but also for this past summer!

Here's Tate Bosler!

Q: Tell us a bit about what you're up to at Carleton?
A: 2019 (sophomore), will declare Computer Science in the spring, possibly double majored with economics. On campus I'm an RA and am on the board of directors for our campus radio station (krlx.org), along with having my own radio show. I also run a website that provides lots of little tools for students, like when buildings are open and whether or not printers are working (sayleshill.xyz).

Q: Finish this sentence: In 5 years I hope to be...
A: Developing something cool, and having students on campus continue to use the things I've built thus far.

Q: What interested you about vidscrip as an option for your externship?
A: I had a blast working here over the summer, so I wanted to come back for another few weeks! The break can get long and I'm excited I'm able to work here doing one of my favorite things (developing software)!

Q: Tell us about your media consumption!
A: Music: Lizzo, Glass Animals, Disclosure, Hippo Campus. (And I play a lot of these artists on my radio show!)

Q: Finish this sentence: a penguin wearing a sombrero gets off the elevator here at the office and says...
A: "Wahooooooo!!!" (in its best Super Mario impersonation)

You can also (try to!) keep up with Tate on Twitter and tatebosler.com!

It's Tuesday and that means its Day Two of vidscrip's "5 days of Carleton College Externs."

Here's Valerie!

Q: Tell us a bit about what you're up to at Carleton?
A: I'm a sophomore at Carleton, a member of the Folksinging Society, and love to attend Monday Night Swing!

Q: Finish this sentence: In 5 years I hope to be...
A: happy!

Q: What interested you about vidscrip as an option for your externship?
A: I wanted to see what it would be like to work as a software developer, and vidscrip was the perfect externship to do so.

Q: Tell us about your media consumption!
A: Just finished reading "All the Light We Cannot See" -- I've gotten tons of recommendations to read it, and watched the new episodes of Gilmore Girls on Netflix as soon as they came out (I'm a long time fan).

Q: What would surprise us about you?
A: I love to make pottery

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and what one person would you bring with you?
A: I would go everywhere (too many awesome places to choose from). I'd take my best friends!

It's Day One of vidscrip's "5 days of Carleton College Externs."

Meet Isaac!

Q: Tell us a bit about what you're up to at Carleton?
A: I'm a sophomore and member of the Class of 2019. I plan to declare Computer Science come spring term. I'm a member of DevX (our computer science interest club), the student senator representing admissions and financial aid, a member of Admissions and Financial Aid Committee, a tour guide, and the staff manager at the climbing wall.

Q: Finish this sentence: In 5 years I hope to be...
A: Creating my own college ranking website. I'm a self-diagnosed college app nerd, and my vision is to make the perfect ranking system by placing its metrics in the hands of its users. For instance, I might input "80% quality of food", "20% weather warmth", "population > 5,000", and "top 50", then receive a filtered, ranked list of the top fifty colleges I should consider given my weighted metrics.

Q: Now that you've been here a bit, what is (and is not) what you expected?
A: Hands-on almost seems like an understatement now. I thought we'd spend most of our time watching software tutorials, learning languages, and reading vidscrip's code to get a handle on what's going on. Instead, I found myself submitting production-ready code on Day 3 - super gratifying.

Q: Finish this sentence: a penguin wearing a sombrero gets off the elevator here at the office and says...
A: "Wrong floor"

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and what one person would you bring with you?
A: I'd go to Dilettante, my favorite dessert establishment, for a massive ice cream sundae. I'd bring my mom, because she'd order something, eat a fraction of it, decide it's too sweet, and give the rest to me.

This year vidscrip joined up with Carleton College's Externship program which offers students up to a 3 week volunteer gig over Winter Break at a job similar to their future career interests.

We are thrilled to have shared the last few weeks with our 5 Software Dev externs here in our Minneapolis office.

They'll be leaving us this Thursday to spend the remainder of their Winter Break with family and friends before heading back to Northfield for the start of 2017 classes.

Each day this week we'll be highlighting one of our externs - check back later today to meet Isaac!

Learn more about Carleton's Externship program here:

Carleton’s Externship program connects students with alumni for a 1-3 week career exploration experience that allows for a focus project in addition to shadowing and networking, and can include a home-stay with the alumni host (although this is not required).
