Meet Zomi - Doula (Northeastern)
Zomi is a doula serving families across Northeastern Minnesota, including St. Louis, Carlton, Lake, and Cook Counties, and has been supporting families for 3 years. Her journey into birth work was inspired by her own experiences birthing three children with the support of nurse midwives — and by learning to trust her intuition and her body’s wisdom.
Zomi deeply values both physiological birth and the expertise of modern medicine. As a doula, her goal is to ensure that each birthing person feels heard, supported, and respected, with care that matches their unique needs and circumstances.
Favorite part of supporting families:
“I’m driven to help pull back the barriers that keep families from owning their power in the birthing process. Doulas and midwives can center the voices of birthing people and support better outcomes — I want to be part of that change.”
Training:
• DONA International–Approved Workshop (2022)
• Commonsense Childbirth Institute — Certified Perinatal Educator (2023)
🌿 Self-care: Coffee, slow running, hiking, yoga, and snuggling with both furry creatures and prickly teens
💫 Fun fact: Zomi is a published poet inspired by the North Shore of Duluth. Her work appears in Coming to Duluth, Signs of Life, Thunderbird Review, and medical humanities journals.
☕ Favorite drink: Iced almond milk latte in warm weather; mint tea when it’s cool
🌲 Favorite season: All of them — each Minnesota season holds its own magic
💬 Favorite quote:
“The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen.” — Rachel Naomi Remen
Zomi brings deep compassion, advocacy, and insight to her work — especially for clients navigating trauma, complex health conditions, neurodivergence, or seeking low-intervention, body-led birth. Her presence helps families feel supported with dignity, evidence-based care, and heart. 💛
