We are fast approaching a New Moon & a New Year. It’s a cosmic combo that already has me in a space of thinking about what I’m appreciative to release with the last of 2022 & intentionally manifest into 2023.
As a backstory, I began intention setting in 2015. Unbeknownst to me, late 2014 was the year of my first Spiritual Awakening. As a result, I was taking accountability for who I was and who I desired to be. What began with reading self help books (ayooo- A Purpose Driven Life and Warrior Goddess Training), quickly evolved into scrollwork & meditation in mid 2015. These allowed me a type of centeredness I’d never felt as an adult and, at the time, it was much like being in the eye of a storm. My husband and I were still living paycheck to paycheck, sometimes at a deficit, and could barely afford the basic necessities needed to support a family of 5, nevertheless the lifestyle we desired and knew we deserved.
Fast forward to New Years Eve of 2015, I was inspired to intention set. I’d already embraced additional mediums of expression throughout the year so it felt natural to add one more. I gathered magazines I had on hand (y’know, the free travel & home decor magazines that would get sent in the mail…), some scrap cardboard, scissors and tape. That’s it. I hadn’t the means to afford more so I approached it with all of my emotions. Both of my daughters used their own mediums and joined me in this new inspired action. I cut out messages, words and photos that matched my intentions for 2016 and displayed this 2’ long piece of cardboard on our bedroom dresser.
I look back on that entire year with fondness. It didn’t catapult us into a new lifestyle. It simply grew my presence and patience. It afforded me the opportunity to see what I was seeking & take action on behalf of that.
From that moment forward, this has become almost ritualistic, but adoringly so, our tradition. Each year, the formatting and medium varies however, the emotional connection with the messaging never waivers.
Intentionally welcome whatever you may into your life; if it is in your heart, it’s there for a reason. The universe will never fill you with desires that cannot be fulfilled.
