As an airway surgeon, this is my rule:

If you can’t squeeze it… don’t serve it whole to your child.

Choking hazards aren’t just about size—
they’re about shape, texture, and how food behaves in the airway.

Round, smooth, hard foods like grapes, hot dogs, and cherry tomatoes
can completely block a child’s airway.

Even in older kids.

Especially during snack time—
when they’re laughing, talking, and not fully focused on chewing.

Cut foods lengthwise.
Modify hard textures.
And always think before you serve.

One small change can save a life.

Save this. Share this.

A simple visual can save a life. This comparison shows just how small a child’s airway is compared to a whole grape. The next few slides are ny 3 simple Mealtime Rules to prevent choking hazards. These rules extend beyond toddlerhood and should extend into childhood. There are no age limits on choking.

This is a tragic loss that no mother should have to experience. I’ve seen choking losses from the home/daycare/school to the OR, and it’s a loss I wouldn’t wish on anyone. 💔

As an ENT, my ‘burden of knowledge’ dictates how my kids eat. We don’t negotiate on these 3 rules. 1. Cut your food 2. Sit & Eat 3. NO distractions while eating

Today is Match Day! If you can learn ANYTHING FROM ME THIS IS IT:
Trust the placement.
Trust the process.
Trust God’s plan
“For I know the plans I have for you” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

How Did we get here 🥹?! First off, thank you Courtney for trusting me to share your story 🥹🫶🏽 and for allowing me to be your mentor along the way.

I created the hearing accessibility video with Courtney during a time when I was actually discouraged from being on social media. Many people believe physicians shouldn’t post online, but I’ve always felt that my responsibility to educate goes beyond the hospital walls.

So I kept following what was on my heart. I kept posting the things I was learning, the things I wished more people understood, and the things that could make medicine more accessible. And that consistency paid off.

Thank you to the producers at The Jennifer Hudson Show for seeing our video and being inspired by it. Thank you to my family — from my grandma and dad helping with my kids in NC, to family flying out to LA to support me. I truly could not do this without you all.

Now tune in to the show today!

They say if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.

Growing up, the only bright fluorescent lights I wanted to be under was on a stage, not the operating room as a surgeon. But through this journey I realized that God didn’t want me to just be on a screen He wanted me to use it.

Now, I use my platform to advocate for the Deaf/HOH community, minorities in medicine, and push for more inclusive medical education. Tomorrow (Wednesday 3/18), I’m taking that advocacy to

From a viral video to national TV with my mentee by my side. Grateful doesn’t even cover it.

Carpal tunnel during pregnancy is very common, especially in the third trimester, and is usually caused by fluid retention and hormonal changes that put pressure on the median nerve in the wrist.

This can lead to numbness, tingling, burning, weakness, or pain in the hands — often worse at night and sometimes in both hands.

The good news is that pregnancy-related carpal tunnel usually improves after delivery, but symptoms can be uncomfortable while you’re pregnant.

Conservative treatments like wrist splints, exercises, and physical therapy are first-line, and steroid injections can be helpful for severe cases. Surgery is rarely needed.

Check out my Amazon Store Front for splints that you can use at night and throughtout the day!
