RTC on Community Living The mission of the RTC/CL is to improve the lives of people with IDD through research, training, and dissemination.

The Research and Training Center on Community Living (RTC/CL) has operated at the University of Minnesota since 1976. During this time, it has made substantial contributions to the field and the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by developing effective interventions and creating new knowledge that has influenced practices and policies for increasing community living and participation.

A celebration and remembrance of Clifford Poetz, a pioneer in the Self-Advocacy Movement and lifelong disability rights activist, will be held on Saturday, November 5, from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at Spirit of St. Stephen’s.

The service will include an opening and closing prayer, readings, a eulogy, and an opportunity to share stories. Refreshments will be served.

On September 14-15, the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals - NADSP and the RTC on Community Living at the University of Minnesota will host their third virtual event. Raffle prizes for direct support professionals will be given away throughout the event.

The North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities (NDCPD)
and the Institute on Community Integration are presenting a training series to support the mental health needs of direct support professionals. This two-part series will provide personal resilience skills, supervisory best practices, and organizational strategies that are inclusive and supportive of mental health.
The virtual training are being offered every other Wednesday, beginning September 7 and running through November 19, 11-noon CT.
