Nicycles Race Team and Social Riding Club was founded on the principles “Ride, Respect, Repeat.” Recently one of our team and club members, Adam Ruggiero, published an article that is in complete opposition to our founding principles. (This article was read, criticized, and removed from the internet for its misogynistic message). Nicycles has a zero tolerance policy for misogyny, objectification, or any act that degrades or devalues another person. Adam immediately recognized his wrongdoing, stepped down from the team and club, and no longer has any affiliation with Nicycles.
Nicycles is an organization that creates space for cyclists of any experience level, and welcomes all riders, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, nationality, income, race, religion or any affiliation. We empathize with everyone affected by this egregious behavior.
As a result of this situation, and the ensuing social media discussions, we are interested in finding space for an open forum with other teams, face to face, to discuss how we can all handle similar situations moving forward, should they arise. We welcome input from others to help organize this discussion. Please contact us through private message on Facebook.
