This pharmacy unfortunately closed last year. We need our small pharmacies.

Some Kansas pharmacies will close Wednesday to protest practices by large companies they say are driving them out of business,

"40% of what we dispensed in 2024 was below what it cost just to purchase the pills," Nate Rocker, a former pharmacy owner, shared with KSHB 41 News reporter Ryan Gamboa. "70% of what we dispensed in 2024 was below what it cost to do business."

Gamboa covers Miami County in Kansas and spoke to pharmacists in small towns who worry they may have to close.

"If we lose small town pharmacies, we will lose access to quality healthcare," Rocker told Gamboa Monday. "In some communities, the pharmacy is the only healthcare provider. If we put those people out business, because we let a company out of St. Louis, Minneapolis, or Rhode Island to continue to steal from both consumers and businesses that are providing healthcare and employers and their health plans, we've lost more than just a business, we lost a resource."

A move in the right direction. Please understand that we are simply fighting for transparency of the PBM practices. Despite what they tell you, this will not raise taxes. There is no "pill tax". Please feel free to call us if you have any questions!

🚨 More big news from the federal government about PBMs! The Federal Trade Commission today announced a settlement with Cigna's Express Scripts that requires it to eliminate spread pricing, decouple rebates and fees from the list price of drugs, relocate its GPO, Ascent, from Switzerland to the U.S., and submit to FTC monitoring for 10 years. It also forces the company to adopt a cost-plus model for independent pharmacy reimbursement (three pharmacies or fewer) in commercial plans starting in 2027 or sooner.

"I hope this is only the beginning of righting the games leading to higher drug prices and harming competition," says NCPA CEO Douglas Hoey. He adds that "it’s critical that pharmacies are reimbursed at a level that covers their cost of acquiring, dispensing, and monitoring medicines and leaves them with a reasonable profit. The big insurers and their PBMs are notorious for reimbursing pharmacies at rates below their operating costs, which causes them to lose money and ultimately go out of business. We look forward to more details on this element of the agreement.”

Support our local pharmacies!!

Organizations funded by the same conglomerates that are raising & driving local pharmacies out of business want you to believe that lawmakers are considering a "pill tax".
SB 360 forces to pay a dispensing fee to pharmacies. NOT a tax levied on patients.

Say NO to PBM Lies!
Say YES to !

*******Important Reminder for Medicare Beneficiaries!!!*****

Traditional Medicare (Original Medicare) has separate deductibles for Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical), with the 2026 amounts being $1,736 per benefit period for Part A and an annual $283 for Part B, after which you typically pay 20% coinsurance for most services. The Part A deductible resets with each new hospital benefit period, while the Part B deductible is a single yearly cost.

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance)
Deductible: $1,736 per benefit period (for 2026).
How it works: You pay this amount for inpatient hospital care for each benefit period; it's not an annual limit.
After deductible: You pay $0 for the first 60 days, then coinsurance for days 61-90, and even more for lifetime reserve days.

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance - also covers some respiratory medications and durable medical items)
Deductible: $283 annually (for 2026).
How it works: This is the yearly amount you pay for most doctor visits and outpatient services before Medicare starts paying its share.
After deductible: You typically pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for most services. But, this may be covered if you have Gap Coverage.
