Accra Homecare

Accra Homecare Accra, Minnesota’s Champions of Homecare, provide individualized homecare services and support to people and families across all 87 counties in Minnesota.

Accra helps people with care needs live safely, while strengthening the broader homecare system. For 30 years, Accra has improved the lives of Minnesotans by providing individualized homecare services to people with disabilities and older adults, most of whom are Medicaid enrollees. Accra is a nonprofit organization that operates in all counties throughout Minnesota and has offices across the state, providing a familiar presence in local communities. Accra’s self-directed services support the independence of children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities, chronic diseases, behavioral diagnoses, and mental illnesses, who need assistance with personal care in the home and activities of daily living. ⚠️ DHS has set an urgent deadline tied to federal oversight requirements that could impact access to care for people who rely on services.

By May 31, providers must complete a required revalidation process to continue delivering Medicaid-funded services.

Some providers are already approved, most are still working through the process, and some may not meet the deadline. For people receiving care, this can mean unexpected disruptions and the need to quickly identify a new provider.

What we want people to know amidst industry uncertainty:

🔸Accra's services remain fully operational. Our clients will continue receiving the care and support they rely on.

🔸We are actively supporting clients and lead agencies through these types of transitions and are prepared to step in to help maintain uninterrupted care.

🔸We are actively accepting referrals. Our goal is to ensure every eligible Minnesotan can receive the high-quality care and support they deserve.

Read and share the full update on "Minnesota Revalidate 2026" ⬇️

Minnesota provider revalidation is required by May 31, 2026. Learn what it means, who it affects, and what happens if homecare agencies don’t complete it. Accra will continue all caregiver pay and client care with no disruption statewide.

Recently, Accra had the pleasure of taking part in the MHCA Day at the Capitol, hosted by the Minnesota Home Care Association. Events like this offer the chance to advocate directly with lawmakers on behalf of the people we serve.

Tyler Langenfeld, VP of 245D, says it best: "Events like the MHCA Day at the Capitol are extremely important. The decisions our legislators make affect our state’s most vulnerable individuals. Therefore, the more opportunities for them to hear directly from those who provide quality home care, the better."

We know advocacy is a vital step in offering the best homecare services in MN, and Accra is committed to continuing these efforts. Thank you to everyone who shows up and strives to make our system even stronger.

This week, the Accra team joined partners from across the state at Disability Services Day at the Capitol — standing alongside the people and communities we serve.

This year’s theme, “I am more than a waiver,” is an important reminder that behind every program and policy are real people. Access to Medicaid and homecare services plays a critical role in helping individuals with disabilities live independently, stay connected to their communities, and continue doing what matters most to them.

We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up, share stories, and advocate for meaningful support.🧡

If you’re supporting someone who could benefit from homecare, Accra continues to be a stable, reliable partner. Our team is here as a resource: https://www.accrahomecare.org/getting-started/client-referral/

39% of people with intellectual disabilities often feel lonely, compared to 14% of people without disabilities.

It's World Down Syndrome Day, and this year's theme, "Together Against Loneliness" addresses the profound loneliness people with Down Syndrome and their families can feel. Loneliness is not just a 'sad feeling', it is harmful to mental health and happens when people are not supported to build and maintain connections with others.

Accra helps address this loneliness through the services we offer. Our caregivers, chosen by our clients, provide companionship and support, both one on one and in the community. Accra is committed to making spaces more inclusive and fostering community for people of all abilities.

This year’s MSSA (Minnesota Social Service Association) Conference was incredible.

Every conversation we had reinforced the dedication Social Workers, Case Managers, and other professionals bring to the people and communities we serve. Our team is leaving feeling energized to have spent the past few days with like-minded people who care so deeply about their work.

We’re grateful for the connections we made and look forward to continuing these conversations throughout the year. 🧡

In a time when many organizations are retreating from equity work, Accra continues to push forward.

Accra’s DEI Manager, Mary Ngunu, will be presenting “Unleashing the Storm: Leading DEI with Courage in Uncertain Times” at the MSSA (Minnesota Social Service Association) conference.

This session explores what it means to lead DEI in a climate of fear, resistance, and politicized funding. We’ll discuss the challenges, the importance of staying the course, and how to respond with courage and strategy.

Mark your calendars for Friday, March 13th, from 9:45-10:15 am to learn practical insights on sustaining meaningful DEI impact.

For , Accra honors the legacy of Black caregivers. One such caregiver is Mary Eliza Mahoney, the first licensed African American nurse. She began her career at the New England Hospital for Women and Children, working there for 15 years and doing more than just nursing duties; she also acted as a janitor, cook, and washer woman over the years.

Mahoney became the first African American to graduate from an American school of nursing in 1879. Throughout her career, she helped to encourage greater equality for African Americans and improve access to education and standardized nursing practices. Mahoney chose to spend much of her career as a private nurse, focusing on the needs of her individual clients.

We are reminded by figures like Mary Eliza Mahoney that caregiving is a vital profession and can make a huge difference in individual lives. Thank you to our Black caregivers who are carrying on her legacy by providing personalized care to our clients: You are appreciated.
