Happy Winter Solstice! December 21st marks the Winter Solstice this year– the day of the year when the Earth reaches its maximum tilt away from the sun, resulting in the minimum hours of daylight and the maximum hours of nighttime that we experience all year. It marks the beginning of winter and has been celebrated throughout the world since before recorded history. Many countries and cultures around the world celebrate the Winter Solstice in a variety of ways, with celebrations typically upholding the theme of renewal or ritual.❄

Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish community members! Hanukkah, or the Festival of Lights, spans from sundown on December 14th through December 22nd this year. This Jewish holiday celebrates a significant event in Jewish history in which a revolt led by a small band of Jews, the Maccabees, was successful in overthrowing their Greek rulers and reclaiming their land and holy temple. Now, candles are lit for the 8 days of the holiday to commemorate this victory and how a one-day supply of oil miraculously kept a candle burning in the temple for 8 days following its rededication to God. This holiday signifies the victory of light over darkness and is one of the most joyous Jewish holidays.
