✨ Need a little more New Year Intention Inspiration?

Our nutrition counselor, Tara Ward, RD, LDN is back with a second round of tips to focus on to end the first month of the year on a high note!

💪 Try to get 30 grams of protein per mean MINIMUM
☕️ No coffee on an empty stomach
☀️ Eat within an hour of waking to support healthy hormones
🍽️ Try to include a protein, fat, and fiber at each meal

Most people stick to a new routine by adding slowly over time. Pick one or two of these to focus on!

✨ Need a little New Year Intention Inspiration?

This time in January is typically when we hear our clients are struggling to find their footing. The excitement of the change is wearing off, and motivation starts to go downhill.

To give everyone a little boost, our Registered Dietitian, Tara, put together some tips!

🚶‍♂️ Walk 10 minutes after lunch and dinner to lower blood sugar
🛑 Stop weighing daily! The scale fluctuates daily from fluid, sodium, GI symptoms & menstruation
💧 Hydrate with 1 electrolyte packet per day to truly hydrate cells
🛌 Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night

Most people stick to a new routine by adding slowly over time. Pick one or two of these to focus on! Tara will be back next week with more tips to help you round out the month of January, and set yourself up for a successful February and beyond!

Now that the holidays have wrapped up, it's time to announce the winners of our First Annual Door Decorating Contest!

Happy New Year! 🥳

Take a tip from so many sessions we have had over the years: set INTENTIONS, rather than RESOLUTIONS!

For example:

Let's say your GOAL is to exercise more regularly for your health. A typical RESOLUTION we have heard in session is "I am going to work out 5 days per week, at 4am before work and only miss a day if I am too sick to get out of bed". This leads to so many potential issues before you even BEGIN!

👉 It is super rigid, which can lead to the COGNITIVE DISTORTION of BLACK AND WHITE THINKING (also known as all or nothing thinking). This causes us to think in absolutes and makes problem solving harder.
👉 No space is left for flexibility, if you do not get up to work out, you have already failed. This rarely motivates us to continue pursuing the goal.
👉 Added pressure can lead to struggles with anxiety and sleep (checking the clock worried 4am has already arrived)

Now let's look at the same GOAL to exercise more regularly for your health from an INTENTIONAL viewpoint. This could look like "I intend to move my body most days of the week in the way that works best for me". This provides so many opportunities when things do not go a planned:

👉 This is open ended, allowing for days to look different and still all be successful!
👉 Emphasis on WELLNESS not PERFECTION (if you're sick, you can sleep in and take a walk around the block later for fresh air and a little easy movement instead of sleeping through the alarm and feeling like a failure)
👉 Sets the tone and helps you focus on the SPIRIT of the GOAL rather than the finite rules you have set up. This leads to so many more opportunities to make small progress and keep motivated.

While you ring in the New Year, Keely is ringing insurance companies 🥂 📞 💻

Not so fun fact: most insurance companies do not release updated coverage information for the new year to providers until January 1st. This means, if we want to keep continuity of care and not have our clients waiting weeks for services AND have accurate financial information, we have to make some sacrifices.

For the 5 year in a row, Keely is sacrificing her NYE celebration to make sure our clients have the most up to date and accurate information possible!

Everyone join us in raising a glass (water, juice, soda, mocktail, cocktail or office favorite LaCroix) to Keely for making sure we do our part to make the cost of services transparent, accurate, and timely.
