Today is an excellent day to put the old adage "There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing" to the test! Join us for our monthly Walk with a Doc at Lake Chaminwood at 10 AM. We will be discussing Seasonal Affective Disorder, and I'll be wearing some of my best waterproof winter gear, while enjoying a walk in what is supposed to by snow by that point.

Because Saturday's weather could make for some dangerous driving, I am canceling our December walk. I had been excited to give away this year's Santa hats for the walk, so if you would still like to get one, they will be available in the foyer for my office at 837B S. Ridge Rd in Minooka, while supplies last. You can stop by Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM or Monday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

I encourage everyone who would normally participate in the walk to find a way to get some exercise at home, even if we can't get together on Saturday.

This year, I heard about the Festival of Trees fundraiser in Coal City, and I thought it would be fun to create a pink flamingo tree! I even located a pink Squatty Potty to put under the tree as a gift. Pictured here are my tree-decorating helpers, my parents.

If you are in the Coal City area today, December 6th from 10-6 PM, or tomorrow, December 7th from 10-5 PM, stop by the Assumption Church Berst Center for some Christmas entertainment and a chance to enter to win one of 50 awesome trees/presents.

Join us this Saturday, Nov. 8th for our November Walk with a Doc. We'll be talking about Holiday Grief as we get ready for a lot of upcoming holidays. While the weather is taking a turn for the colder, there are many benefits to exercise in cold weather! Just remember to dress for the colder temps. The talk starts at 10 AM. I was so excited this week to get my gorgeous new name tags! Handmade in the USA by Atomic Lucite, these custom name tags mean I won't ever have to get my hair caught on sticker name tags again! They'll get their first use next week at the Empower event and all future Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry events.

I wasn't in the office today, but I was very excited to celebrate the first National DPC Day from home! In these times of rising healthcare costs, it was great to see posts from all my fellow DPC docs around the country who are working to make medical care affordable! I was at my alma mater Rush University Medical Center yesterday, and I was excited to see they have a Hands-only CPR training kiosk! I learned about these kiosks when preparing for our September Walk with a Doc, so it was cool to see one in real life. According to the map, there are also ones at Midway Airport, Lurie Children's Hospital, and University of Chicago Medicine. If you get the chance to use one at these locations, it is a great way to spend a few minutes that could be invaluable in the future. In the meantime, I will post the AHA's site about Hands-only CPR below, which has some helpful videos.

Car seat safety is very important, and I love that the Minooka Fire Department is helping the community with this!

Saturday, September 27th is National Car Seat Day.
Stop by the Minooka Police Department from 10am-noon for a free Child Safety Seat Check!
Get there early, the first 25 kids to have their seats checked, get a free ice cream cone from the Minooka Creamery.

Due to the snow and low overnight temps, I am concerned about icy trail conditions tomorrow, so I will try to post about our walk topic for this month, reviewing Seasonal Affective Disorder, and we can all find ways to get in some exercise safely at home!
