The BESS Test is a scientific test of static balance!🙌

The balance testing consists of three stances on two different surfaces. The three stances are double leg stance, single leg stance and tandem stance. The two different surfaces include both a firm (ground) and foam surface. The patient must also have their eyes closed when doing each stance.

The physical therapist will then count the number of errors from proper stance within a 20-second trial for each stance - with the number of errors quantifying balance.

The BESS Test looks a lot easier than it actually is!🫣

The Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT) is a tool for measuring dynamic balance in the lower limb.

It identifies:

a) Functional deficits in the return to sport phase of physical therapy
b) It identifies individuals with high risk for future injuries

The test is used exclusively at Pro-Motion Physical Therapy and underlies our commitment to research based physical therapy.
