North Dakota Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program (ND EHDI)

North Dakota Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program (ND EHDI) Welcome to the North Dakota Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (ND EHDI) program page! Our goal is to focus on all aspects of hearing health.

The ND EHDI program has been in operation since 2000. At that time, there was an increased emphasis placed on universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS). As programs evolved from UNHS into EHDI, an additional emphasis was placed on follow-up efforts thus requiring support for both birth screening and subsequent follow-up activities. This additional focus to reduce loss to documentation/loss to fol

low-up (LTD/LTF) has brought about the need to enlist additional program partners including audiologists, child health care providers, and early childhood programs while maintaining a strong birth screening program. Following an infant from birth through diagnosis and into early intervention requires ongoing diligence and a system bridging all medical and educational communities.

🎧 Have you heard about EHDI?

Check out this great “EHDI 101” session from the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Conference (March 2026). This video gives a clear overview of how early hearing screening, diagnosis, and intervention work together to support infants and young children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The EHDI Conference brings together professionals, families, and advocates from across the country to improve systems of care and share best practices for supporting children with hearing loss.

Whether you’re a parent, professional, or just interested in learning more, this is a great place to start!

Early detection = lifelong impact. 💙

When hearing loss is identified early, children and families can be connected with the support and resources they need from the very beginning.

That early access can make a lasting difference in communication, development, and connection.

This is why the work of early hearing detection and intervention matters—every single day.

We can’t spot delays if we don’t know what typical development looks like.

That’s exactly what this Early ECHO series from Project ECHO- USU IDRPP has been doing, breaking down typical development so it actually makes sense in real-life practice.

May’s session focuses on Understanding Typical Behavior
because sometimes the hardest question = “Is this behavior expected
 or something more?”

If you’re an early intervention provider looking to strengthen your clinical lens, build confidence in your decision-making, and connect with others, this is a great space to learn and collaborate.
