God was in all the details of the birth of our sweet Caleb Christopher. I am forever grateful for all who helped us throughout our pregnancy, birth, & postpartum. Huge shoutout to our wonderful midwife- , , our wonderful doula- , my dear sister friend & fellow homebirth momma- Ansley Summerville, & my amazing hubby!!! In one of the videos I said during labor (& after) that this was my hardest labor, but thanks to how God used each of them, it still went so well & was so special!
This song was in my head when I woke that morning when my water broke and came on later while I was in the birth pool. Two of my big prayer points for this labor were not to tear & for the timing of it all with where the kids would be etc. I did not tear & the kids were with wonderful friends & Joshie even made it to see Caleb born as he wanted!
ā€œCurls & contractions,ā€ Josh in the birth pool with me,
ā€œsqueeziesā€, prayer, & Joshie being there at the end (as he really wanted to) were some of my favorite parts of the actual labor. Very favorite of the day was when Caleb Christopher was in my arms! And then second to that was his brothers meeting him!
(Side note if you had told me even a decade ago that I would have a homebirth I would not have believed you. I thought those people were a little crazy.
This is actually my second one but the first one was during covid and I changed last minute to it. This time I started from the beginning with this amazing nurse practitioner midwife with the hope of a homebirth since there are no birth centers here. It was special to have the same midwife the entire pregnancy. She truly held me through this pregnancy She and her amazing nurse provided my IVs for HG. I’m so very grateful).

ā€œI’ve spent the past week searching for the right words to describe Theo’s birth… but nothing feels quite enough.

Maybe that’s because this birth wasn’t just about welcoming my son—it was also the closing of a chapter in my life. My last pregnancy. My last labor. My last ā€œfirst moments.ā€ It’s a bittersweet ache that’s hard to put into words.

Theo’s labor was 12 hours start to finish. My water partially broke, causing things to stall until we decided to rupture the last pocket. Almost instantly, relief and overwhelming pressure hit—I knew he was coming. Just 12 minutes later, Theo was born at home, safe in my arms.

I expected joy and relief. What I didn’t expect was the wave of grief that followed—grief that I’ll never experience this season again. Even small things, like packing away birth supplies, brought tears I didn’t see coming.

So now, I’m soaking up every ā€œfirst lastā€ with Theo. The middle-of-the-night feedings. The chaos of our new rhythm with seven kids. The sweetness of his siblings falling in love with him. I’m reminding myself daily: these moments are fleeting.

Through my home births with Malakai and Theo, I’ve found a passion for helping women step into empowered, positive birth experiences. That chapter may be over for me, but I will never stop cheering other women on.

Because here’s what I’ve learned:
✨ You deserve a positive experience from pregnancy through postpartum.
✨ You have choices—your birth, your way.
✨ Your birth team matters. Choose people who listen, support, and encourage you.
✨ Trust your body—it was designed for this.
✨ And never forget: you have a voice. Stand up for yourself.

Your story matters. Your experience matters. You matter. šŸ’›ā€

I’ve witnessed your quiet courage & your fierce intuition. You teach me every day about trust, courage, and the deep wisdom that lives within each of you.

Thank you for inviting me into your homes and into some of your most vulnerable moments.

One week ago Iver started his journey into the world within the comfort of our Home.
Choosing to have him at home was one of the best decisions we have ever made. After our first meeting with Joanna, Taylor and I both knew this was the right path for us. From the beginning to the very end, we felt completely supported by her. She allowed us to make the calls on how we wanted this to go, but she was also there to answer any questions, talk through the fears of labor and birth and provide us with information to help us make the best decisions for us and for our baby.
Labor is hard, but also so empowering. To allow yourself to give in to the pain and allow it to do what it needs to, is the hardest thing I’ve ever endured, but I am forever grateful for Taylor holding me and encouraging me through it and for the support and guidance Joanna gave both of us. I will forever be grateful our paths crossed and she will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Iver made his way into the world in the middle of the night through a lighting storm, while all my other babies were tucked in tight. Those first moments of his life, just the 3 of us (and Joanna) in the calm of our home.
